showdown = forced tabling

i always read posts and threads revolving around problems with mucking winning hands, hands being accidentally mucked, etc. etc.

i was wondering if there would be a big issue if a hand went to showdown you are obligated to table your cards and let the cards speak. sure, if you try a big bluff and get caught you have to show it, but is that really a bad thing to the point that it's hurting the game?

being forced to table cards at showdown sure would eliminate a lot of crazy fights and problems that can arise. thoughts?

They must be tabled "to win" at showdown. I don't see a problem if someone wants to muck and give up the pot.

the problems arise when someone places the cards face down, then realizes they really won (happens even more in high-low games). the problems happen when the dealer mucks the cards accidentally. the problems arise with slow players. the problems arise when players refuse to table their hands in an attempt to force the other player to table their hand first. etc. etc.
  • Then "the problem" is with poker players that think they can win without tabling their cards and not with the rules.
  • The only thing I would add to Chris' comments is this:

If you knew you had to table your hand after the river bets were completed, who would ever bluff? Aside from the advertising there would be no point . . .

    1) Learn to read your hand. You are just making more work for the dealer. Imaging the poor dealer in an Omaha game that has to figure out 6 hands that went to showdown. Talk about slowing down the game.
    2) Protect your hand.
    3) Won't do anything about slow players.
    4) There is a specific order for showing hands. Dealer enforces this.

  • Who was that portly, masked fellow?

    and where's my wallet?!? :o
  • FWIW

Most people that pull this "you show first" or talk about without showing their hands are low limit douchebags who think they are playing some coy game to throw off their opponents when in actuality they haven't a fucking clue and are just posturing.

Bottom line, show your cards, don't be stupid.

    Mark
  • ok yeah you're all right. if people weren't stupid there wouldn't be any problems.

so i guess now the question is, what's a good rule change to deal with stupidity?
  • How about just explaining the rules to your idiots before you start dealing?

Then, ENFORCE THE RULES . . . ez game.

No, now that I think about it trigs is right....we should change the established rules of poker to accommodate morons.
