Vegas tourny questions - Mar 10-14

I'll be in Vegas from March 10-14. The last time I was there, different casinos had different rules for taxation on tournament winnings. Planet Hollywood for example did not tax any winnings under $1,800 (their tournaments were not the greatest). Bellagio said they tax all tournaments winnings from Canadians regardless of the amount.

Does anyone know casinos in Vegas that are best to play at for Canadians? And what the amount of tournaments winnings needs to be before they will tax?

Thank you!

  • Excellent. Thank you!
  • No one taxes below 5K in Vegas these days.
  • That's what I thought until Mirage pulled a Seneca on me during the WSOP last year! Canadians are raped for 30% of ANY winnings in their SNG tournaments. :arghh: They claimed that all MGM-Mirage properties are supposed to do it, so do not pay for any tournaments in the US before first finding out about their 30% policy.

As far as I know of the Vegas casinos only the Mirage taxes Canadians like Seneca. I have never been taxed any amount on Casino tournament winnings in Vegas and I've cashed in several different casinos, never for over the 5K mark however. However Blondefish is right, do ask before you play. Things could change. Think my cash list over the last couple of years includes Mandalay Bay, Excaliber, MGM, TI, Harrah's, Sahara, Binions, Golden Nugget, and probably a couple more that don't pop into my head.
  • I'll be there the same time...here's a few links to help your schedule:

Las Vegas Poker Source - The Latest Las Vegas Poker Information - like this one bc they have it laid out for each day of the week by time under the tourney tab...

Las Vegas Poker Rooms Reviews, Tournaments, No-Limit Holdem - the old standard

There is some casino specific withholding info if you leaf through also.
