Forum Downtime
Well, it looks like things are almost completely back to normal now. YEEEEE-ha!
Seems like a few of the custom smileys aren't around yet, but most of the functionality seems to be back now.
Apparently, there were some major computer problems at the forum hosting site, but I don't know too much about the technical details.
A few issues came up during the down time:
1. "Did I get banned from the forum?!"
Some people possibly interpreted the "403: Access Forbidden" internet browser error message quite literally, and were afraid that they had gotten banned. If you do happen to get banned (which I hope is a rarity), you should still be able to browse and read the forum anonymously.
2. "What the heck is going on with the forum?!"
The only answer I had personally was "I don't know". AFAIK, he only person who knows about the technical details of the forum at this sort of level is Sloth himself. It's unlikely that Dave Scharf, all_aces or I would know the answers to technical questions about the forum. In case of emergency, see point #5 below, or try Sloth
admin@pokerforum.ca
as a last resort.
3. "I've heard rumors that the CPP is starting a new poker forum. What's up with that?"
Some have noticed a new space called "Poker Forum" which has opened up on the CPP website. I personally have no information about what the plans are for this, and whether or not PokerForum.ca will be involved in any way.
4. "I did/didn't play in LeaderBoard Season 2, Event 2 despite/because of the forum being down. Does this one count for points?"
We did manage to round up 15 players for this tourney, and MickeyScorekeeper has tallied the results. Whether the scores will count for the official standings is unclear. This decision will be left up to the organizer (SirBry).
5. "Why don't we have a backup plan for communication if the forum goes down?"
Great idea.
I just noticed that a couple of people actually did this kind of thing this time around. Clever! And I'm hijacking your idea... sorry.
Let's use an alternate forum, say rec.gambling.poker, to talk about the status of PokerForum.ca if there is an apparent problem. If something seems to be wrong with the forum (knock of wood), try searching RGP for "Pokerforum.ca". (I'd suggest using Google groups to access RGP any time you need to search its content.)
6. "Welcome back!!"

It's possible that 'Squirrel Mail', the carrier, was down at the time too though, just by coincidence.
And while you're there, please make sure to post a bad beat story, a 'poker is rigged' thread, and some affiliate spam. Swear a lot, be sarcastic and scathing, and give bad poker advice.
Regards,
all_aces
they finally had enough of my bold text and pink fonts
it's good 2 be back

Odd, my pokerforum.ca email was working through the squirrel mail thing...
