Bad Beat that Was CONFUSING!

Ok, so I was at the local casino playing some 1-2 NL and things have been going well overall for the week. I was up $700 for the week.

I was going through a crappy stretch of cards and quite frankly I wasn't playing well (for the evening). I was dealt A-K in middle position and raised to $20 pre-flop. I had one caller directly to my left and everyone else folded. I was a bit nervous as the cards were not coming my way, however this time the flop was A-A-6!!! I loved it, but kept my cool. I checked and so did the guy to my left. The turn was a 2 and I make a pot sized bet and the villain goes ALL IN!

OH MY GOD YES, I AM GOING TO STACK THIS GUY AND I LOOOOOVE IT, I PLAYED THIS PERFECTLY, I AM THE GREATEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD AND MY ROUGHT STREAK IS OVER, HAHAHAHAH!.

I flip over my A-K self righteously as quickly as humanly possible and the river is a 7 and I get ready to take my pot and the guy turns over 2-2 and I thought to myself "what a moron, he goes all in with trip 2's?" As I am pining in my glory, someone says "wow, he is full". I was still confused, I wasn't full...I won this with TRIP ACES!!!!!

Then it hits me...I HAVE LOST THIS POT...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

POKER-1 EGO-0.

This was not a good night, but it was a good lesson.

PS. This is not me talking shit about a guy calling P2's for a large raise, if I would have bet the flop, I would not be writing this post.

Please feel free to make fun of me.

  • you got donked.

I woulda taken him outside and beat the shit out of him in a tilt rage.
  • Hmmm...bad beat?

You were behind when any money went in the pot.
  • OK... I read the 27 > AA story first and gave you WAY too much credit for the "cracked AK" story.

hardly, next time bet your hand on the flop. U let him catch up on the turn and it cost you dearly. $20 call with small pair is reasonable although I don't know how deep both of you were.
  • slow playing trip aces is silly. You'll either loose the hand or MAYBE score 1 extra bet. The only way all the money is going in is against another A, and even then he may check it down.

The only way you can slow play is if you can get away from it.
He obviously isn't goiing all in with A7 there.
  • I totally agree that I should have bet the flop, I will not argue that for a second.

    Good point.

This thread illustrates my mistakes, and is not meant to call the guy out for playing a small pocket pair like that.

The point is I looked like an idiot, and had a bad night at the casino, I am sure we have all been their.

Yup, you are right. I bet the flop and this guy folds way more often then not. I learned a lesson, that's for sure.

More times than I care to remember. :)
  • idk about you guys, but im a superstar at the casino.

slow rolling the flop was just plain and simple bad poker.

    run better next time.
