Online Poker Study

An online poker study is being conducted by Kevin Dempsey, a Psychology Honours student at the University of New Brunswick, supervised by Ph.D student Anthony Hopley and Dr. Richard Nicki. This study is done online and is investigating the factors which lead to poker playing. All participants will fill out several questionnaires, which should take no more than 30 minutes. Each participant will be entered into a draw for five prizes of $50Can, (expected odds of winning are 1:50). If you’re at least 18 years old or 21 outside of Canada and you would like to participate in this study, please visit the website below.

  • Wording of many of the questions are open to multiple interpretations. An example: How many times have people criticized your betting?

Are they referring to overall betting? or merely making a donk move at the table one night?

Studies like this one seem destined/designed to find problems where none may exist . . .
  • You are correct in saying that wording is open to multiple interpretation. In terms of the betting criticism, you should answer the question however you interpret it.

I agree that it takes skill and quality play to succeed at poker.

    Thank you,
    Kevin
  • I took the quiz.

I get the feeling that the quiz tries to investigate problem gamblers... The 1 or 2% of people that contribute 30% of the money in the poker economy.
