Worst beats of 2010

Just took my first live bad beat of the year (I've defined a bad beat as < 6% probability of losing; otherwise I'd spend all my time posting here).

$20 live tourney. We're down to 7 players (started with 16) and I'm short-stacked, down to < 4 big blinds. I've been short-stacked since the beginning (lost 2/3 of my stack in the first blind level), but have got it in and doubled up at opportune times. The weakest hands I've shown down are AQs, AK, and pairs above JJ, so I've been getting lots of respect on my pre-flop pushes (except from 2 calling stations, one of whom called 3 different all-ins early on with T9o and J9o, but that's another story). I was at T12k earlier this orbit, but just lost 2/3 of my stack when I folded to a check-raise and check-reraise all-in on the flop. The players who made it to showdown showed AA vs. KK.

I shove in early position. It's folded around to the blinds. BB calls.

We flip our cards over: :10c:10d vs. :ts:10h.

I say loudly, "Don't you dare hit the flush!"

Flop: three s. "Yep, you don't even have to show me the turn."
Turn: another
. I'm DOT. "Story of my life."

Lucky for me, the cash game kept me above 250% ROI in live games since moving to Ottawa. Sucks that my tourney cash streak stopped at 5, though.

    Did you specify who should not hit the flush?
  • You called it out.

    Never call it out.

    Your fault imo.
  • at least you recognized you were dot. most people don't know when theyre dot

    Well, I was looking directly at the other player with TT... it was clearly implied.

    LOL.

    I've had this happen with AA vs. AA once live, but I had the other player covered (he was a shorty and I was one of the biggest stacks), and I went on to cash in the tournament (iirc). And I remember I got knocked out of a 3-table $60 tourney by one of my closest friends at an underground club (in 2006?); I pushed with QQ and he called with K7o... and hit the flush with his 7! I still don't know what he was thinking. And I still haven't forgiven him. ;)

    Of course it's happened a number of times online (either with same pair, or a lower pocket pair hitting the flush) - but I don't even make note of most of my online bad beats anymore... they're far too frequent.
  • Meh its been both ways for me:

    1) AA vs AA at the Airport club 3-4 years ago vs. some guy named TEX. His fush good for a $600 pot.

    2) AqHH vs AqDD at Caesars last year on the money bubble and I flop it.

    Hey I remember Tex. Wonder if he's still around anywhere? He be crazy.

    That one's gotta make you puke just a little.

    That's not so bad, though. I mean, it's less of an "auto-chop" when you flip over the cards.

    Poker stove says AQs vs. AQs pre-flop is 42.84% to split, 7.16% that somebody hits a flush. That's a higher probability than somebody hitting a 3-outer on the river.

    equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 50.000% 07.16% 42.84% 122557 733595.00 { AcQc }
    Hand 1: 50.000% 07.16% 42.84% 122557 733595.00 { AdQd }

    TT vs. TT is 47.83% to split; 2.17% that somebody hits a flush. That's about the same as a 1-outer on the river (e.g. gut-shot straight flush).

    equity win tie pots won pots tied
    Hand 0: 50.000% 02.17% 47.83% 37216 818936.00 { TcTd }
    Hand 1: 50.000% 02.17% 47.83% 37216 818936.00 { ThTs }
  • 3 of these type of hands I remember clearly live.. AA (me) vs AA (Buzzzard) vs KK (carmaker) at one of Buzzzards tourney a year or so ago The KK makes the set. My KK vs KK at one of the Orangeville/Belwood events, I 4 flushed. My KK vs BigBob's AA aipf (cash game) the first time we went to Vegas on a Rocks trip, I tripped up... He took it well... lol
  • Pic added to OP... 'cause I like pics.

    Serves me right for playing the low-suit :10c:10d.

    and story corrected. I forgot about the hand earlier that orbit.

    I had been up to 12,000 with blinds of 600/1200. I pick up a medium pair in late position. A LAG player raises to 3,000 in early position, there's a call, and I called. Flop was dry; check-check; I bet 5,000 (yes, more than half my stack, but I expected it to be enough), got check-raised by the LAG, and then next player re-raises all-in! I fold. They flip over AA and KK. WTF? I'm down to 4,000.

    A few hands later, the OP happens.

    There was a crazy hand at theCaptains table at RC a couple years ago. Jeff do you remember the hole cards. Something like AA vs AA vs 77...the 7s hit a set or something.

    While that sounds amazing - and is, mainly due to the starting hands - it's barely a bad beat: 77 has > 22% chance to win, partly because the AA's have no way to improve if 77 spikes his 2 clean outs (plus various straight possibilities give another % or so).

    If it's AA vs. KK vs. 77, the 77 drops to only 16.2% to win, 'cause he has to hit AND dodge 4 cards that can kill his hand.

    I know, I was just stating that it was a crazy hand. Actually, I think there might have been another pp in play and another folded. I might be wrong though.

    Ask Kristy about the beat she laid on Schtebs at the last Bristol. Really gross, but kinda funny too.

    Yep, forgot about that, thanks for reminding me.:) Shannon and I had the A's, don't recall who had the 7's.... some a'hole whoever it was...
  • Playing Rush for the first time, and I just laid the nastiest bad beat I think I've ever dealt out.
