Self Exclusion

Just curious your thoughts on using self exclusion on poker stars or full tilt poker..

I used it for the first time today after making some bad calls at that damn rush poker game..Its a leak i need to fix and while the money lost is not of concern or very much its that i know damn well I made some bad plays..

So I'm going to attempt a self ban every time I make a bad play. eg. A hand where you know damn well your beat but call anyway cause your trigger happy lol or just are playing a limit where the money isn't enough to get me to fold.

Anyway...Went with a 3 day exclusion on ftp and 1 day on ps.

Maybe I'll actually get some work done now too..Much more productive.:D

  • I think doing a self ban every time you make a bad call is quite excessive. I'm sure this is something that can be put to good use at the proper time though. I've thought about it at one point, but decided against it. If I'm running that bad usually just the thought of logging in will put me on tilt so I just don't even open it up.

    exactly this.

sometimes, its really fucking easy to walk away from this game.

theres been times where I question every single move I do, and doubt 100% that I will win a hand. Its messed up.

but I always come back confident as ever, stacking donks and winning money like nothing ever happened.

Its not me running bad its a "stupid" play/call I will make and I know it at the time I do it..I guess its kinda me tilting.
  • Seems silly to self-ban for 3 days after 1 or 2 bad plays. You are losing a lot of money taking 3 days off. If you feel like you are easily tilting or your game needs some work then it may be a good idea.
  • I too have been playing Rush a lot...and have found..after awhile I start to make dumb calls just the same...You know you are beat, yet you call anyway...*just to see* What I have been doing there that has been working well for me, is A: if I get more than double my original stack, I log out and restart...I know, I know..short stack...blah blah..but, it seems to be saving me from the variance there..and typically the only time you get stacks on rush, is when they are in the 20-40 buck range anyway...unless monsters meet. B:When I make the dumb errors and call..I just shut it down for a couple minutes..go do something else..(come here) Then go back when the head clears off..

    I don't know that I could do a full 3 day ban..lol..
  • Self-bans were pretty popular amongst a few of my 2p2 friends for awhile..I've only seen it work well once. If you make a dumb play and are aware it was bad immediately I don't see what else is to be gained?
  • Barry Greenstein says he makes about 20 bad plays a session.

I make over 20 dumb plays/calls/bluffs/moves almost every session.

If I gave myself a ban of 3 days every time I did something dumb I'd play every 4th day......

Every time after I play, I like to write down the dumb plays I did in a notebook. Often there are huge egregious error in that book.
