Really?

At this point I had only seen 5 flops, 3 of which were limped into and i was in blinds. Hadn't really played a hand yet. Wahoo however was in every hand and most times the one pushing the pot higher, and I noticed he had a particular hard on for any AX. I had a hand and got the result I wanted from it, however I am wondering if perhaps there is a reason he may think his 7 is good here. I thought I indicated quite well to him I had a hand, and when he didn't lead out I knew he did not have a queen in the hole. I am assuming he checked to see if I maybe caught air, but my bet at half his remaining stack on the flop perhaps looked more like a continuation bet than I thought.....

  • welcome to low buy in tourneys! :D

Looks like he was going for the soul read, but you shut him out.

    nice work shar!

and GL at the 1/4 milly tomorrow!! :D
  • Meh, if he likes his 7 he might as well give you a chance to bluff. I don't mind his line postflop... much. (idiots love to put others on ak)
  • Or if an ace is to come he negates my hand. I thought that too and I do understand going for it in some situations. What I was wondering was my betting line. After reading many of the posts of others, I am just trying to understand bets better.
  • More likely, he has a pair, and to him...that is good enough. He has been playing lots of hands with any ace..sounds just like a kid in a candy store..."ooooh online poker...ooooh, an ace! Ooooh...I paired my 7....*insert dollar signs in eyeballs* " See it everyday..someone calling to the river with bottom or middle pair.
  • I don't mind checking back the flop. You could get him to turn what he folds on the flop into bluffs and you'll even out of those way ahead/way behind situation. A c-bet on a deeper stack plays the hand out easier because you have the option to fold, but when you make a cbet with the awkward stacks (you don't want to bet/fold 1/2 your stack) its like committing yourself.

Thanks for that comment. As I read more and more posts about reading different hands, about each possible (better or worse) play, it is helping me to see the different ways people think, including myself.

I thought my bet of almost the value of the pot, half his stack, would make him fold, as I would have been more than happy to take the pot right there. However, I knew I was calling if he shoved, so yes, I was committing myself. I guess I was just surprised that he shoved, especially since I did re-raise him pre.

I see why checking the flop could be alright, however, with JJ I do not think I would be comfortable giving up my preflop raise power or for that matter giving him the free card on the turn to make 2 pair, or at the very least the chance to hit the ace I am pretty sure he has. Or because he raised, perhaps a free chance to set mine with a small pp, and that would be more of a possibility in my mind against almost anyone but him at this point.

A check here would also, in my mind (if he really thought on the flop his 7 was good) still invite him to stay in the hand even if I reraise a turn bet. He may also look at that second deuce on the river as a possible bluff card after a senario like checking flop, bet/raise/calling the turn.

Now, against someone I was unsure of, giving myself that option to fold is ofcourse something I would consider, but in this situation I was very confident of my read, and I am glad that it held.

Why? She is asking for analysis of his possible thoughts....
  • Dennis, I started answering and then I fell asleep. I can't possibly bring myself to argue with about this (Shar, please take this well..I love you) Shit thread. It is not a real analysis. To even get close to that we'd need a series of hands playing out like this, not one donk making a random mistake..and even then with a history and a purpose it would still really just be a thinly disguised brag post and not actually serve to further anyone's game over-all in any way directly related to the OP.

So the rest of us may carry on to discuss if we please? Because one person doesn't find merit in a particular circumstance, doesn't mean others won't. I personally, question motives behind small actions some times..and like others opinions of them.

In b4 I make another enemy..but the truth hurts.

Allowing the poorly thought out "Strat" threads is what, single-handedly kills this forum. If there were more people saying "That's retarded" we'd not only get better quality threads, we'd become better quality players. So if you want to white-knight Shar, fine...but I"m pretty sure she didn't join this forum just so you could kiss her ass and fill her full of misinformation.

This thread has no merit, nor do most of Darbdays.

    *sigh*

Your argument has no merit. But, of course, you will argue that because you must be right.

You are saying that lower caliber players than yourself shouldn't post questions to learn from. That makes no sense of a forum. I learn from all these threads, not just the "quality" threads. If you don't feel a particular thread has merit, you can just ignore it, you don't have to post in it.

I don't know Shar, nor am I ass-kissing...I am just sick of you deciding what is right and wrong for everyone else in the forum.

    /thread (for me)

    didn't read your post

i always rub 'smart' girls the wrong way.

i ask question here to help my game to help me make more money playing poker. i am very happy with the results, and am sure to be well respected here by the end of this year. the threads i create definitely help me.

if we only learn from those that are better or equal to us then how could the very best possible learn. The black belts are black belts because they acquired an ability to learn from the white belts, especially their questions....

they say the quality of questions a person asks determines the quality of ones life.... what is the best question one could ask?

lastly what is a proper strategy thread, or does the simplicity just bother you?

That is the point Dennis, I'm TELLING YOU..there is nothing to learn here.

God for someone who goes on and on about how much 'they want to learn' and 'how inferior they think their game is" you really don't know how to STFU and listen. What was it 7 damn people in the other thread who told you-you were flat out wrong about the 77limp..and you still argued it.

The truth is that you aren't here to learn, you're confident in your game and that's cool..but stop riding the fence and admit that you are apart of the circle-jerk-people-pleasers with no interest in actually improving...

..unless of course someone jams the fucking logic down your throat...as they/we did in the last thread.

HM is an epic poster.. he doesnt really post all that much, but when he does it has merit, and has a purpose.

I deem +43 internets for HM. Anyone wants to argue, they can shove it up their ass.

this is level 5 meta you fuck.
