Card Weights

Just wondering if any of you use a card weight (i.e. like Greg Raymer's fossil) when playing in a live game, and if so, what it is.

  • I had planned to use the tooney I found on the carpet just before the registration window. It's paperclipped to my entry form.
However, I may need to sell my seat for that December tourney as I have a consulting gig firming up.

(If I need to sell my seat I'll post a new thread in the next 7 days.)
  • I search Ebay every now and again for 'card marker' and 'card protector'. There are usually a few items... some cool, some not. There's not much of interest on there now, though. This item looks alright I guess--stainless steel, raised brass, probably has a decent weight and feel to it--but it's pricey: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=573&item=6134389842&rd=1

  • Yesterday my wife and I were shopping at Toys R Us for a gift, and I saw something similar to this (it's about 12 inches tall):

I turned to my wife and said: "now THIS would make an awesome card marker. it's all about the intimidation".

    She replied: "you're an idiot."

That's when I knew it was perfect.
  • I usually use a green chip from my set. It is green and yellow and reminds of my favourite ball team. I will find something cool like the above now though!!!

    Yes, I am a DORK!!!

ROFL. You'd have to walk in with it in a bag or something, and then do the usual... sit patiently waiting to be dealt your first hand, make small talk with your neighbours... and then when you get your cards you WHIP the thing out of the bag and SLAM it onto the the table, without a word.
  • LOL DJW, WOW what a card marker that would make.

Like all aces said, sheesh you dont say anything about it. Just go about your buisiness, you pick up a hand and BANG you throw that thing on the table. It would actually probably throw a couple people off. LOL, I LOVE IT.
  • I've used on occasion this really big $1 metal slot chip, i got when i was on a cruise ship. It's heavy and looks like a poker chip more or less. The only problem is that at casino's they've asked me not to put it on the cards.

They have some issue with metal. I guess they're worried about it damaging or possibly marking the cards.
  • I literally laughed out loud when I saw that one! Then I looked again and laughed again! Very funny.

If you reeeeeeeeeeealy want to throw them off use this:

what really throws them off is when you explain what it is... :D
  • when inclined i some time's use a smurf holding two aces(found it in my child hood toys).I find when you have a smurf protecting your cards no one really takes you serious, but i think its funny so it stays.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, A P**IS RING... LOL, THAT WOULD REALLY THROW THEM OFF!!!
  • I WAS worried about that. For at least a minute...
  • As soon as I saw the "Alien" card weight, the only thought in my mind was to go get me one of these....

    Talk about intimidation!!

how could i bluff you if you had that as a card protector, by bluffing you i may be committing a sin.
  • Someone already snappy 'buddy' up:

Cover your ass this millenium with the new Buddy Christ Dashboard figurine. Inspired by the statue seen in Kevin Smith's Dogma, Buddy Christ stands over 5" tall, comes fully-painted and is ready for action. Whether mounted on your dash or used at home in the Christ the Computer Companion mode, let Jesus watch over and guide you 24-hours a day.

That would have been so sweet at the tables!

Dollars to donuts says they'll be calling for a new deck after you 'pull' that move!
  • I just bought my card protector today, from the Silver Snail on Queen St. in Toronto. They're a comic book/everything shop, and I found a pewter Cartman, from South Park. One inch in height, and some serious weight, I think Cartman will be a good addition to my tournament game.

    Sweeeet.
  • Sweeeeeeeet lol Been a Southpark fan since day one. Respect my authoritaaay! lol

I bought a Simpsons chess set advertised in a magazine years ago. Might have to start using Homer or Grampa Abe as my card weight. lol
  • I just use a $1 river rock chip......from the very first time i played in the B+M from the first pot i dragged, i have hung onto that chip kind of like a good luck charm :) worked well in my bosses home game last night , left up a measly $80, but hey i dont mind winning 2 tourneys and 2nd in the other :)
  • I really like the card weights from dealerbuttons.com:

    bigslick.jpg

You can customize them! I also want to get the dealer puck/bb/sb buttons and get a custom engraving on the back of the dealer puck that says "Stop playing with the fucking dealer puck dammit!".
  • I don't think the picture you included is big enough.
  • holy jebus! My IE window must have resized it smaller haha, I didn't know when I linked it that it was so big until I had IE fullscreen.

I have edited my post with a smaller version.
