Tipping dealers - Tournament play
Dave,
Is there a reccommended tip amount or percentage of winnings from a tournament that is given to the dealers? Or is it each to his own? I never know if i am being generous or being cheap. Or is it not common practice everywhere to tip the dealers?
Pete

wait until you read my trip report about some of the tips that I have handed out in the Dominican Republic. Wowza. You think $100 goes a long way in Vegas? It practically stops the world down here.
Must reign in the Cuba Libras and stop handing out Benjamins to the hotel staff.
He said 'no, no... don't tip them. They've already taken a huge percentage out of the prize pool for the dealers--they're well looked-after already'. So, I took his advice.
But now I think I should have given them something anyways, after playing some more live tournaments. I think it all comes down to how much of the prize pool is already going to the dealers, how much you won, and how generous you happen to be. My reason for not tipping in Regina had nothing to do with generosity or lack of it--it was just that I was inexperienced, and I was following advice that, for all I know, may have been correct.
As for 'private' tournaments, I'd probably tip around 5% of my winnings, but last time I made money in one I was so pumped up about winning that the thought didn't even cross my mind, and I left with an envelope full of cash. I felt bad about it the next day, though.
So yeah. I really have nothing to contribute. Dave, do you tip in Regina as well?

As far as I know there is nothing taken from the prize pool for the dealers. The person who told all_aces that was missinformed (I think).
You should have seen the back flips in Waterloo!
