WSOP Academy

Ok, so one of our BSPT players has won a trip for two to Vegas with a seat in the Academy...(one of the choices of prizes)..but...he is trying to figure out whether or not the academy is worth it...

Has anyone attended this academy? Or know someone that has? What level of play should one have or maybe be below?? to have this academy do them a decent amount of good? It seems that there is only one pro per session, with some helpers...

Thoughts anyone?

  • Not sure what it all entails, but if part of it is the 4 hour Joe Navarro seminar, then I would take it in a heartbeat. Just the 45 minute quickie he did at the Poker Expo last month was very interesting and informative. An in depth version would be very interesting, imo.
  • I have not been to the academy but spent a lot of time at their booth at WSOP Palooza event because they used Ticket Holdem for their prize giveaways. All comments in general conversation with people who had attended were favourable to excited. It would be one of those things I would love to win and attend but not likely to spend the money from my own resources.
  • I agree the navarro part of the school would be fantastic. I would even consider paying for the course if he was one of the teachers.
  • I have been to many of the WSOP academies, in several different capacities.
In my experience, every time I have left with something new to work on or work into my game.
And, as previously mentioned, Joe Navarro alone is worth the price of admission. Joe is a genius, and has helped me personally. Usually the cast of instructors is balanced enough that it`s almost impossible not to find someone that speaks to your own style of play....

I think he is part of it. When he spoke at the poker expo in Toronto I think he was also helping promote the WSOP Academy and his book.

    Also, his profile is here:

  • He was indeed, Graham. Bought his book as a result, and have already used it to cover the cost of the expo, and his book. AJ has a picture on his phone of Joe and myself, if he can ever figure how to download it. :)

I'll ask my daughter to do it for me. I have NO idea how to do it.
Damn...feel like Milton Slim all of a sudden
  • Don't we all. Was out buying a Wii for Christmas earlier this week. Had to get my 13 yr. old to explain a couple of the things to dear ol' Dad.

    Sheeesh . . .
  • Seems like only yesterday I was showing my father how a Commodore PET and CoCo computers operated. I remember his bewildered look on his face when I tried to explain Basic and DOS to him.

Remember the yellow things for the centre of the 45's. Three curved arms, and it had a specific name, too. I remember throwing one in my brother's birthday card on his 45th, couldn't find one for the wife's.

This is going to drive me insane all day long . . .

I always called them Spiders....not sure if that's the name you are looking for. My buddy who collects vinyl (serious collection) just calls them 45 adapters.
