Some rules are too harsh in my opinion.

Last night I was playing a $11+1 NLH tourny at the pub and it was down to 5 runners. I'm in the big blind and its folded to the cutoff, who raises 3x. Fold, fold, I call. The flop comes Ad 7s 9s. I bet 80% of the pot, he calls. Turn is the 4h. I bet 110% of the pot, he calls. River pairs the board with the 4d.

I go all in, he calls immediately. At this point I feel for sure that I am beat. As I'm counting up chips to throw in the pot, he says, "Whaddaya got?", I laugh and said "A set of aces." -- His reaction is, "Ah, man! I only have two pair" and he throws his cards in face down.

I looked up surprised as hell and said, "Why did you muck? I was kidding, dude." and the dealer confirmed the muck. I flipped over Jh 9h.

  • The rule is harsh on you. Ship the pot to him (not you!).

    1. A tourny in a bar that takes a rake is illegal.
    2. You played the hand like shit
    3. A set of Aces on that board would actually have been a full house.
    4. Your "joke" was an angle shoot.
    5. Flipping your cards very is douchy.
  • 6. Be thankful this didn't happen to you.

  • Those (see 3 posts above)... the money was in and you lied.
  • So this is in the "I'm a douche" thread?
  • It's not something that I am proud of. I was not allowed to simply pass over the chips. The rule was quoted, "any chips passed across the table is considered a blind raise for the next hand, or is to be taken out of play if the player wishes to withdraw from the tournament."

That was the idea, hence the joke.
