A situation that isn't likely to come up...

I have been thinking about this quite a bit lately and it really isn’t very important but... your in lp with five people all-in (first orbit of the tourney so everyone has you covered). What do you do? Does it matter what two cards you have? What if you have AA, KK, QQ, or AK? I just keep wondering if I have AA in a situation like that if I could fold. What do you think?

  • I think a 5-way all-in pre-flop officially counts as a poker urban legend. I'm calling Snopes. ;)

This thread talked about the same thing happening in a rebuy tournament, but my response would be the same for a freezeout.

  • I've seen it happen, rebuy tournaments......honestly as much as i would hate to do it, (and even though i dont know if i could lay down AA) its almost gaurenteed to be cracked i think especially with 5 ppl all in, b/c someone will catch a miracle str8/flush or 2 pair by the river to beat your rockets......i'd hate to do it, but with 5 all ins i doubt AA will hold up til the river
  • In a $5 + 50 sng on the first hand I picked up AA on the button, 4 people all in first hand, my aces held, but unfortunately, I finished the tourney in second.

Also, it wasnt quite the same, as the EP, MP, and LP raisers mereley raised, re raised, and, re raised, then I moved in , and they all called.

    Still a neat hand.
  • Say you were in the a WPT or WSOP main event. Do you still call with AA or KK? Is there any hand you could call with preflop in a freezeout? In a rebuy I think it is a very easy call but in freezeout (especially the start) I think it is very different.
  • In the WSOP main event, I would call with AA but probably not with KK facing a 5-way all-in on hand #1. Probably the same if it was a 3- or 4-way all-in. With 2 players all-in ahead of me I'd have to give some thought to what I'd want to do with exactly KK.

I think AA simply offers far too much pot equity relative to the number of players in to consider folding it to an all-in spree on hand #1.
