Montreal Open

Hi everyone,

Has anyone played in the Montreal Open or know much about it? It's a charity tournament taking place in Montreal in March, where the top 20 players fly down to Vegas in May and duke it out for prizes and 10 WSOP main event seats.

The structure seems reasonable: $275 buy in, $125 for rebuys in the first 4 levels and an awesome add-on for $125 at the end of the period for 2.5x initial chips.

I can't find any other information like rules and level structure.

Wondering if anyone knows it or has played it in.

Thanks

  • Was actually wondering the same as well. Haven't really been able to find any information anywhere regarding the tournament. Will probably end up going up to Montreal and playing in this regardless.
  • Hey guys, me and my friend want to fly down to Montreal this March for the tournament. What are the benefits for people who run deep? Any new information? Or does everything go to charity except for the top 20 people? Thanks.
  • While this is better than Ultimate Bet's event next month, note that all charity poker events are meant to extract the most money from the players for the organizers and charity, so they are a lot more -EV compared to driving to your local CPT tournament. The prize pool stays at ~$250K (for the lucky 80 people who survive the crapshoot structure) no matter how many players and $125 rebuys/add-ons there are.

If you are a rich gambooler that wants to spend money for some -EV fun and charity, then go for it. For the rest of us struggling to build our poker bankroll, then any +EV CPT or online tournament is a better choice.
Or does everything go to charity except for the top 20 people?
