Vegas Trip Report Oct 10-16th

My buddy Rob & I fly out of Detroit with Spirit at 8:00pm on Saturday night. Nothing really exciting on the flight except for the fact that I FAINTED!

An hour into the flight I started to feel hotflashes, I remember telling my buddy that I'm not feeling well and that I better go to the bathroom. Rob said that he got out of his seat turned around and said that I was OUT! He said that I looked dead, my eyes were open but no one was home. He said that he pushed me in the shoulder twice and slapped me across the face a couple times and I didn't respond. He said after a few seconds after that I came to. I have no idea why it happened. I have been on a plane close to 20x and have never experienced any discomfort before.

We check in at the IP & call our two buddies who arrived earlier in the day. They are already wrecked and are at the Mandalay Bay as they went to the Barret-Jackson auto show. Rob & I play $1/$2 NL and from about 11pm-4am and make a small profit of around $120ea.

On Sunday we have breakfast at Harrah's Cafe before heading to the sportsbook at the Mirage. Our buddy Joe tells us that he hit $500 on the slots at the IP after getting his players card. We bet on football and miss out on a $3000 payday because the Cowboys only win by 6 against the chiefs. I later hit on a hockey parlay that paid $285.

The next couple days I win a few bucks and lose a few bucks playing $1/$2 at Harrah's, the Mirage, the IP and PH. I really dislike the poker room at Harrahs and Planet Hollywood, although we ate at the Mexican Restaurant at PH called Yolo's. Excellent Food.

Here are two hands of note from the week...

At the Mirage I am in mid position with 44. I call $2 pre-flop, SB calls, BB made it $10 to go, I call. Flop 8-4-4. BB bets $20, I call. Turn J...BB bets $100, I go all in for my remaining $240 or so. BB shows JJ for a boat againsy my quads. The river is a J. I am obviously stunned and want to puke. I decide to just leave in a huff.

That night we hit the Fremont Street Experience. We hit the Nugget after a few beverages. I am playing drunk which I never do, my AQ on a board of Q-7-2 runs into KK who goes all-in. I can't lay it down and I drop another $140.

I really enjoyed Vegas as it had been 4years since my last visit. The Palazzo and the new City Centre look pretty awesome. I regret not-checking out Emeril's Stadium, I heard that it it the best sportsbook anyone has ever seen.

As for the poker rooms...the IP has extremely soft players. The room at PH was a waste of time. The MGM Grand has a nice room, it seemed like each table had 4-5 players who played for a living. The Mirage had a good mix of players and I found it pretty soft as well. Bally's & the Nugget were nice rooms. As a group we decided to stay away from some of the tougher rooms like the Bellagio, Wynn, Caesars & the Venetian.

As for the food, we ate at the CPK, Maggiano's, Yolo's and Grand Lux Cafe. The Grand Lux Cafe had the best Italian Market Sandwich ever.

I highly recommend staying at the IP if your on a trip with the guys. The rooms are pretty plain but the location on the strip is awesome. If you are taking your wife/girlfriend I would recommend staying at a 4* resort.

  • Thanks for the report. What didn't you like about Harrahs?
  • Nice report.

I guess Mirage doesn't have a Bad Beat Jackpot?
  • good report.
if you were at Caesars, that bad beat
would have won you $40,000 from their BBJ.

There were only 2 tables going, too many regulars, the oldest waitresses imaginable.

Although I did like their tournament that I played in, there were only 10 of us but it had a pretty good structure w/bounties.

Was this the 1pm megastack? If so is this the typical #'s they are getting?
  • btw, you might want to speak to a doctor about what happened on the plane. Seems like a real serious issue or sign of something serious on the horizon.

Thanks for the concern. I am not too worried. I believe that I may have been a little dehydrated. I did a little research after I returned home. Fainting on planes is a pretty common occurence even amongst the air crew.
