Loose / Aggressive or what?
At a recent work function an impromptu Hold em game broke out. I suggested we play 1/2 limit, which was below some people's prefered limit, but about right for most.
Now, the general level of play was terrible. I think I was the only regular player there, and we usually had 6 players as some came and went. The guy who joined half way through (president of company, has most $$) is a maniac to the max. Bet or raise at almost every opportunity it came to him and I think I remmeber two folds the whole time. I suggested we make a 5 bet cap, but quite frankly, the raises happened so fast I usually had to guess and say "Ok, it's capped now". Plus, we were using beer caps as chips and you can't easily make a count. I would say about 5% of the time he DID NOT raise when he had the chance. I would also say 20 % of the time he didn't even look at his hole cards.
My night is the funniest. This isn't a huge payday or anything but considering:
1. 1/2 limit
2. I played for about 2 1/2 hours
3. I saw 5 hands to the river, and won only 3 of them
4. My AA lost to a K-4 suited (flush on the turn) capped to that point - cost me about $15 that hand)
I would say $72 profit is actually pretty comical (only won 3 pots all night!). Of course I was being called a pussy because I wouldn't "go all in before the cards are dealt" and for folding after the flop, but that's the price you pay. "This ain't the internet", he'd say, and I'd think, "if the internet was like this, I could play 1/2 limit hold'em for a living and I'd quit work!" I think the big guy was down about $50 or $100 or so in the end which was merely a portion of his tip money, but the bragging rights are mine, and a future promotion most certainly is not since I excercised those rights during the game.
I don't get to play too many live games, and never get them as good as this. Just thought I'd share and see if any similar stories are revealed.

When I do go in hands, they'll say "Oh, he's got a good hand... he's actually playing...", but they'll still call my raises all the way to the river. I almost feel bad taking their money... almost
Just kidding. Most of those players are very good but I'm starting to get an idea of the sort of cards they'll raise with.
Like the time I hit two pairs when the board flopped a 3-flush? Little did I know I was raising against 2 flushes. :banghead: But I evened up shortly thereafter when someone with a set was kind enough to re-raise into my nut flush.
