time to build another table.
in Poker Games
Well, I'm saying goodbye to my old table and building a new one. My old table was pretty much a piece of 8x4 3/4" plywood with carpet underlay and pool table felt wrapped around it, with fancy padded rail around the edge. here is a picture:
I found that you need so much room on the outside of the table for tv trays (or whatever) so that you can hold drinks/snacks for the players. I was against cup holders but now I think I must have them. I was looking around for a good table design when I came across an amazing site:

Not only does this guy give away all his instructions for free (as long as you don't try and sell them), but he's taken great care to build a pretty sexy table and taken pictures along the way. Here is a picture:
So I have picked up most of my supplies and started over. I'll post some pictures once I'm done.
I love that racetrack..... so pretty....

what do you plan to do with your old one?
(this is because it'll be cheaper than me inevitably sawing off one of my fingers)
Josh FP: I used Perfect Padded Rail (tm) from CasinoSupply.com here: http://www.casinosupply.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=50-0033&Category_Code=OCH. It is essentially pipe insulation, but it's much more dense, and feels very nice and smooth on the outside (with a nice texture). VERY expensive to ship to Canada though.
JuiceMan: my old table is basically one sheet of 3/4" 8'x4' plywood. The new table is going to be one sheet (same size) of oak, one sheet of plywood (spruce), and the rail will also be made from plywood. It will be faily heavy.
Chugs: I am going to be making a stencil of this table so I can make more for friends etc. But these are pretty expensive to build if you use good quality material (nice felt, good wood etc). It also depends on if you need to buy some tools or not.
I wish I could tell you that.
This stuff is pretty big for this application (21'), and is pretty heavy. I was expecting something bad and I got it!
It sure made finishing off the table easy, but $200 is pretty steap just for a rail.
By the way you people asking to by the "old table", the price is $ 350.00, shipping is $600.00.
Notice he is in Winnepeg! Most of you are in Ontario.
I tried to ask around to see if people wanted a table built, but I think a lot of people want the challenge of doing it themselves.
