Stars $215 Sunday

I recently won a seat in one of the 11 rebuy sats and wow, those blinds are insane! It was neat that I was seated at the same table as Jim Worth from CPP as well.

Any ways, I was wondering what sort of tornament I should expect on my first, and hopefully not last, sunday tourney at Poker Stars.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • I play these a lot... sadly, it's been a completely different experience every time, so I can't give you much in the way of advice. It all depends on your table draw. In *very* general, though, I will say that since it is a freezeout (no rebuys), and since the stakes are higher than some players are used to, you'll find that people play a bit tighter than you may be used to. Whether you yourself want to play tighter, or whether you'd rather try to take advantage of the people who are playing tighter, is up to you.

    Good luck.

  • A_A is correct. It all depends on your table draw. lol I've been lucky enough to play in about 5 or 6 of these now on satellite chips. Each one has been very different. Play tight, and hope for some good karma. :) Usually 2000+ entrants is the norm. So survival is mandatory. lol Good luck.

fyi, my best so far is 466th
  • A_A is right, as well as DJP. Let me tell you this. Think about large tournaments (1000+ ppl), and then think about the good players that show through. Only one comes too mind right now, and this guy knows about survival in poker. After winning a pot at the WSOP 04 he was qouted at saying...

"Hey its all about survival, the chips just come to me."

He also just recently got too the final table of the first ever WPT/PPT inagural event at Foxwoods. Who is he? Dan Harrington. So accomplishing the feat of making the final table in the huge fields of the WSOP 2 years in a row is a major feat all by itself. It tells me that he knows what he is doing when playing tournament poker. If you watch. He plays tight, waits hands, sets traps and takes advantage of other players weaknesses (like all_aces was talking about)

Just play your best, but remember... dont get into any real scary coin flips. If you are going to shove all your chips into the fray make sure that you have thought it out before pressing the button. Be calm, be patient and the rest should fall into place with a little luck. Go get em champ! :)
  • howd you do?
  • All right Ill confess- I didnt play.

Last night I got to thinking.

Hmmmmmm. It seemed pretty easy to win that seat through the 11 rebuy sat for only $20, and there is 5 more leading up to the big event tommorow. So, if I unregester, recieve $215 tournament dollars, I will surely be able to win another seat, and have more profit to show.

    BAD IDEA

I soon found myself down $100 after 3 events, upon where I decided to get out of dodge.

Still tempted to play I considered playing, but thought better of it when I noticed over 2000 entrants closing in on the deadline. I figured instead of commiting $100 out of my bank role, wait a week, hopefully win another satellite, and keep the seat this time!

    cheers,

    Irah
