Good night Las Vegas..Costa Rica in November anyone?

This is the next stop and I know those that have done a WPS/CPT series in the Dominican or Costa Rica weren't disapointed.

Smaller buyins than Vegas, but a decent sized Main Event and a few medium limit events.

I will keep every one posted on any sats or those crazy online overlays should they come up.

They say this is a better party than LV, what are player thoughts on this one?

  • Are all the events from November 6-15 confirmed as CPT events as none are listed yet on the CPT website? Here is my 2¢ on how the low attendance of Vegas & Dominican Republic can be improved.

    1) WPS needs to contact every single person who has ever played in any of its previous events about its upcoming events in Costa Rica, DR & the Caribbean cruise. I have never received any email or letter from the WPS. CPT can do the same to all its members.

    2) The host casino needs to properly promote the events. Hard Rock Las Vegas had no information or promotion about the upcoming Mega Stack when westside8 and I were at the 2+2 Party with over 200 poker players, and its marketing continued to be horrible.

    3) Have online satellites ASAP, ideally with market leaders PokerStars or FTP. 888.com didn't even have a promotion page on its site about CPT/WPS Vegas, so there were only 2 package winners. PartyPoker made a blunder restricting the satellites for the CPS Heads-Up Championship only to Canadians so I never had enough opponents for even a single package to be generated.

PokerStars plans to announce the North American Poker Tour in October, so CPT/WPS will have to match the marketing power of PokerStars or be forced to make a "deal with the devil."

  • I will look into the details concerning CPT points for these, now I really just lump WPS and CPT together for any international event.

I know for Hard Rock CPT put out flyers, TV spots, I posted everywhere and talked to players all over the web, etc.

Why HR didn't sat the hell out of this in their room or throw out e-mails, let the 2+2 ers know etc is beyond me.

Lesson learned. There was also talk of a a Card Player ad and from what I understand, never happened.

Costa Rica should go well just on repeat players, but there is a few months to put this party together, I agree with your thoughts and am gonna work on putting it together.

Either way through Pokerstars or CPT/WPS lets hope they announce a decent tournament here at one of the Ontario casinos (hopefully at Fallsview). Would be nice to see an event held here with different ranges of buyins and held over a couple of days so that more players could get involved unlike WPT/Fallsview which had only the 10k event.
  • One thing about the marketing power of Stars, very tricky to advertise an Event and even remotely associate with online in Canada, where Casinos are concerned.

The very issue at Fallsview is that online was promoted by the event and it caused waves.

So they can't do much more than CPT/WPS, although obviusly they will blast it through everywhere online. On that note, Hard Rock had thousands of views online, was listed in every major DB and in Press releases, yet the turn out was low.....

Blondefish? IF you don't mind and you are a prefered member of 2+2, can you get a Costa Rica thread going.

The leash is short there. Unlike Graham who likes his members to be informed, they pull the "eject" lever fast, so I am limited to what I can do till I reach super poster status.

Done. Now do I win a $5K satellite package? ;)
  • What were the player turnouts like last year? How well attended were the $300+40 and $2500+200 events?
  • Thanks much for the thread Blondefish, running to check it out now...the 5k package might be hard, but I will try to find out the easiest place for you to win it.

Just getting back into town, so it will take me a tad to catch up. I know players liked the ring action. I don't see the results on the World Poker Showdown website so I am e-mailing Herb now.

    Back soon!
  • Back to Edit.....

Last year 193 entered tournaments during the week and eight cash games working. Mostly 5/5 with Mississippi straddle, and pot limit omaha. This year looks to have a stronger field as a few solid players have already told me they are coming. Who'syourdaddy energy drink and k-sino clothing will be throwing a party Wed night Nov 11....very cool.

WPS has been running Costa Rica since early 2000's

Now as always when I mention an online sat please do one thing! If you are creating an account for the first time please use the pokerforum.ca affaliate links to support the place! And give Graham time to get a little piece for bigbetpoker accounts if he is interested. He is great about letting me tell you about live events and I want to see the forum get a little back in return. If the online overlays are anything like the last series I posted about, might be an easy holiday for someone here. Inquirer cashed in, make it another Canadian from here!

Satelites are on www.bigbetpoker.com and on www.888.com starting sept 11. Cake poker has expressed interest but have seen nothing yet. I will keep everyone posted if Cake gets in.
  • Does anybody here happen to be a Big Bet affiliate and willing to share a portion of the 25%+ revenue that I may generate? Had I signed up with PartyPoker through an affiliate, they would continue to have thousands of dollars in MGR.

  • Let Graham hook it up BlondeFish, be nice to see him get back for all of this too.

    Agree?
  • All events do give CPT points, checked with Kelly. This is a WPS event, but again, kinda a free trade type agreement, (couldn't think of anything better)
  • bigslickvip also has lined up some exclusive sats for this on 888. There is a freeroll with $1 rebuy and another.

Considering it just launched and the player base is a bar league, should make for some tricky but soft fields......
  • Hey guys, 888 sent me the details for their promotion... you can find the info here:

"888 are running satellites to the CPT/WPS in Costa Rica starting today and I would like to use your forum as a voice to get this out.:
