Live game Hand analysis

CNE casino, 5/10 Limit

reads UTG, tight decent
middle position raiser - Loose. bottom pair with no kicker has been good enough to call to the river.
CO Loose, slightly aggressive. usually has the goods if he gets to the river.

I have $65 after a very slow streak.

I was dealt pocket 10's in SB.
UTG calls,
middle position raises,
cut off raises,
button folds,
I cap,
BB folds
UTG folds (later I find this is bad for me).

Flop comes 6, 10, small something....

I bet out, 2 original raisers raise, I cap. everyone else is out now.

Turn - 8

I bet. original raiser bets, cut off raises, and at some point middle position raiser is all in. I'm all in but for $5.

River - Q ......shit.

Push in my final $5. cut off calls of course

CO turns JJ

Original raiser shows tosses down KK
and I throw in my SET to take it down for about $250 all told.

UTG had pocket 8's and said if I hadn't capped he would have called the $15 preflop........I might have then strung him out on that turn as well.....

Sorry if it is a bit disjointed. I'm upset with myself that I got so caught up in the action that I wasn't reading the board or measuring my actions. Don't fully remember the turn action but do know that MP got all in and I was left with a Fiver. It was just bet bet bet when I saw the 10 on the flop. Didn't see the straight possibilities which on this table was possible....

So beyond slowing down and thinking about my actions, let me know what you think about the play on this hand.

  • Assuming there's no flush possible, I think its fine.

By the time it's capped on the flop, you are pot committed. No holding back now.

What worries me is that you let yourself get to $65 at 5/10. You should have at least $200 on the table at all times. More like $400 to beat the variance and get paid off when you have the nuts.
  • already mentioned, biggest mistake is playing 5/10 w $65 behind. If you plan to rebuy anyways, might as well put the money on the table now so in these circumstances you can maximize your returns. Don't be one of those losers that buy in multiple times, for $100 at a time. If you can't afford to buy in for the max multiple times, you should be playing lower limits.

What was the wait time like?
  • Why cap it in this spot?

Never mind the pocket 8's that would have come along. But with 2 other players raising in front, why cap?

    Agreed...

I was thinking folding is probably best with a raise and a re-raise.

The worst part is, if you're going to play this hand, and by the action be behind, he doesn't even have enough implied odds because of his own stack size... damned sin that

  • Good points for sure. Thank you all.

The main thing I expected to get razzed on was capping with just 10's but the roll on the table was a much bigger error for sure. will make sure to rectify that in the future. The guy with KK bought in for his fourth time after this bust.

Sorry I didn't mention the suits but there was no flush coming.

Wait time was just over an hour and they were starting to convert some of the 5/10 to 10/20s so it would have gotten longer. nothing smaller than 5/10 available.

I've also edited the original post to remove calling the MP a donk....who the fuck am I to label someone that way. totally classless.
  • Yea,

    You donk...

    Mark :)
  • imo you played the hand fine, including the pre-flop cap. If you`re going to play at all, you should be capping to get the UTG limp to fold.
  • Except for not having enough money on the table you played well!

How's the fish fest going otherwise?
  • Well, got beat up a bit because I wasn't playing bingo/Yatze properly.

When I loosened up a bit the cards started to fall. Definitely necessary to have the stack behind to deal with the variance.
  • At the CNE I cap pocket 10's today, yesterday and tomorrow. Well played except for the lack on money on the table. CNE = fish fest. Bellagio is a different story.
