Crazy Pineapple

What does everyone think about Crazy Pineapple? I've never played it myself, but I've heard everything from "the action's much better" to "you might as well be playing bingo, because there's no skill involved".

Thoughts?

  • Holdem is hard enough... I don't have any space left in my brain to learn any of these other fancy games. 8)

Seriously though, I think that there are so few situations where Crazy Pineapple strategy differs from Texas Holdem strategy, it's simply a waste of time dealing that third card.

Those two quotes about Crazy Pineapple probably have less to do with the particular game selection, and more to do with the players wanting to play Crazy Pineapple. :)

  • I like Crazy Pinapple.

But then again, I also REALLY like pot limit double draw.

Nobody plays that sh*t since hold'em is KING.

But hold'em is NOT the only legitimate form of poker out there. It's just the most popular.

There are a lot of good games to play.

Chicago and Anaconda are not among them.

    Just my $0.02.

    Crap! You raised? I fold.
  • I have probably only played two hours of crazy pineapple in my life.

I suspect that the "skill overlay" is less in pineapple than hold'em. That having been said, the skill overlay in limit hold'em is not that great compared to other games. One of the reasons, I think, that hold'em is so popular is that it takes weak players a long time to figure out that they are weak players. Unlike seven-card stud in which the money concentrates much more quickly.
  • I know Paradise offer crazy pineapple, but I've never seen it in a B+M cardroom. I guess, thinking about it a bit more, there's not going to be too many instances of making tough calls about the discard card.

You just like this game because you invented it. :)

  • Crazy Pinapple Strategy Adjustments:

Obviously start with solid two way hands, meaning two separate hands working with each other not all three cards working together.
Pairs go down in value, given that with three cards working two ways the probability of players closing flush and straight draws aswell as junk two pair hands and small trips when paired rag flops increase greatly.

The game is more difficult to read as players holdings can not be figured preflop as easy. Once they discard on the flop a player is often left holding a two card combination you would never see him play in holdem.
Given this you must tighten up after the flop as there is usually better hands in play than in holdem.

Given all of this if you make the correct adjustments people who opt to play this game I find are usually rec players as it is not spread in the casino, you can usually make some good money as people play any two of three that make a moderate holdem holding.

    Hope this helps

    Almost right....

    I did "invent" it.
I do like it. But not "just because".
It is a really good game heads up to five-handed or
    so.
  • A friend of mine claimed that Crazy Pinapple high-low
(8 or better) was "Seattle's Favourite Game" back in the 80s. I think he played it at a casino in or around Bellingham, or it might have been around Tacoma. Don't know if those places are still spreading it, though....

Anyway, it's a very fun game.... as was said, looser preflop and tighter postflop is probably the way to play.
