I lose it, I snap!
My temper gets the best of me while playing poker and recently I have been calming down and just roll with the bad beats.
My temper reared its ugly head today and my computer almost went out a third story window. I'm playing 3 .50/1.00 NL tables at once and I'm dealt 66 and flop comes down A 6 3, rainbow. Someone raised to about 10 bucks so i bump it to 20. At this same moment on another table i just get busted on a terrible bad beat so I click on that table to close it. My trusty old computer decides to take it's sweet time and the buzzer is going off at my other table to make a descion. The screen comes up and my $20 bet has been re-raised all in for $120 and re-raised all in by another guy for about $180. So it's my call. It's a no brainer, no raising preflop= no set of Aces out there so i got the nuts. I am frantically hitting the call button, but my computer is still humming and hawing over closing my other table. Next thing I know my hand is folded due to time and these two cats each have two pair, and I got nothing. I only lose $20 on the hand but I missed out on over $300.
The temper tantrum that ensused was a doosy. I believe a couple of knuckles are broken and I'll have to make a trip to the home Depot for some drywall patch.
I have mastered the art of dealing with poker losses but not when it's the fault of the computer!!

and get a new puter...something more reliable then your current one :spade:
or dont play 3 tables at once...
your puter may not be up to par on handling it
:canada:
As for your situation, as CO said, it's probably time for a new computer. I'm getting one soon as well. My cousin tells me that ordering from Dell is the best way to go... fast delivery, good prices, and the performance has been flawless for him so far.

Also while checking for spyware, it is best to use spybot search and destroy.
The title reminds me of a 'Champ' episode.
- Mrs. Champ is complaining about your floppy, Champ
- I said "Pardon?"
You fill in the rest.
its a laptop so its a little more portable, but usually the worst it will get is a slam down
i take my live beats a lot more civilized
P.s run adaware and spy bot once a day before turning your puter of it will keep it runnin smooth
The advice about spyware is good, and could very well be the problem. I would also make sure it is virus free (as Juiceman says), and it's been rebooted recently. I know it sounds obvious, but I do IT work, and I've heard of people not rebooting for months at a time. This will make even the latest and greatest PC run like a dinosaur after a while (despite the boasts of Microsoft).
As an aside, some P2P file sharing programs will kill a systems resources for a couple minutes when a file is completing. On my otherwise fast system, it can take 30-40 seconds just to change windows when this is happening. Not sure if you run anything like that, but it's something to be aware of.
Good luck...
i think OS Kid was asking about the poker element of dealing with the beat.
I think you have to look at the computer issues in the same way that you look at actual things happen at a B&M game. Use the same cards and situation. Your situation is almost the equivalent of reaching over to grab a drink when playing, and somehow through a weird confluence of events having your hole cards get exposed. The dealer calls your cards dead, and the money you already put in the pot is gone and you can't play on. You wouldn't be happy and likely would be irate over the fact, but shit happens.
In terms of playing multiple tables, etc ... when i have a big hand going on i'm willing to even let action at another table time out, rather than deviate. I usually play a NL tourney and one limit game at the same time. If the action in one hand gets really important i really try to do everything possible to avoid even thinking about the other game.
Which means i wouldn't be closing the other window, or even thinking about it in the middle of a NL hand where i flopped a set.
I pretty much came to the same conclusions. Just ignore other tables when involved in a big hand.
And I guess you could look at it as a fluke situation that could happen in a B&M (luckily it hasn't) and you just gotta accept it.
As for my computer, it is a DELL, and I hate it!! I just got it all re-done with top of the line spyware and a zonelabs firewall, It is supposed to be impregneable. For the amount on online poker I play I might as well employ my own IT guy 24/7!
Oh well, i'm over it now and on to bigger and better pots!!
thanks all
Yes, losing the pot was unfortunate. But in the long run, is it really worth going Matasow. Over 50,000 hands, how much does it impact your BB/hr? What I've found is that my mood after the Bad Beat or unfortunate accidents (I've had some too -- thinking I'm clicking on check, and the buttong turns into call) had way more of an effect on my BB/hr than the one incident.
If you can get in better spot before sitting down, the bad beats and unfortunate accidents get chaulked up to experience and you play on and still make money.
P.S. I've won big pots a couple of times because the freaking cat jumped on me and I accidently raised instead of folding. And, through that I learned that a turn raise is a very powerfull tool!
Cheers

that guy should be employee of the year ...LMAO :banghead:
Awesome!! Same old Burly.
I suggest you move from Owen Sound back to Waterloo and move into my basement, that way when you have the urge to throw your PC out the window it will just slide along the grass.
I could picture your "tantrum" so easily when reading your post, I guess I dont blame you though
