Though this is neither the time nor place, I must throw my 2 pennies at this, and say that this class was a philosophy type class and not a science class.
No science teacher should ever say that it makes a sound. For sound, you need a source (tree falling), medium (air) and reciever (ears, microphone). If no one is there, it only makes waves, no sound.
