Oh for the love of..

I just killed my stars bankroll more or less ^^'
I began the night with 150 dollars as I've been on a downswing lately. I've been playing 10$ SnG's all night and I've suffered the following beats

AK < A5 when he got a set of 5s
QQ < A2 when he turned a flush
KK < 33 when he flopped quads
AQ < A10 (oh well ._.)

and finally my personal favoriy 88 < AQ, I keep 75 chips, double up, double up, double up until I have about 1,5k again. Pick up JJ on the SB, shove and get snapped off by QQ from the BB. Didn't want to play less than 10$ SnG's since I'm playing higher at another site and I didn't feel it would be worth the time. Now my bankroll is dead unless I can cash in this 10$ 180 man ^^' gl me

I'll probably deposit and try again once I grind some more 30$ SnG's on betsson ._.

Edit: That wasn't pretty ._. Called a small shove with 88 and lost to pocket 4s and then I ran QQ < AA and busted ._. I must really have pissed someone off ^^' gg stars

  • BRM management at its finest. When your losing drop down in levels.
  • Hehe, my bankroll is still 780 dollars :P I'm not wasting time playing under it just when I can acctually transfer freely back an fourth between betsson and stars
  • As much as I'd love to be a jerk and yap about bankroll management, I hear what you're saying here Richard. It's a very frustrating/difficult/annoying thing to have to rebuild from lower levels when you're used to a certain level. Like you said, you're able to freely transfer again to Stars from the other one, so it's not like you're tapped. Beware if you do get that close to being tapped though. You'll be stuck playing lower or reloading big, which is a pisser either way.

    Epic Fail
  • Gotta check your ego at the door sir
  • Just don't agree with how he's employing bankroll management, that's all. Just being able to reload conveniently is not a reason to play above your means.

Still, good luck. Wish you all the best. I just see a recipe for disaster, but that's my opinion.

I was referring to OP with my comment lol...

yeah, I'm calmer now. It was just so frustrating to run bad like that and it tilted me off. Just wanted to go around screaming how noone runs worse than me ._.

Is it a bad idea to consider your combined online pokermoney your bankroll? Should you try to keep separate rolls on each site?

I don't thinks so, that's what I do... However I consider my live and online rolls as completely separate.. lol, I don't have a separate Vegas and AC roll however.... Should I?
  • I guess there's nothing wrong with pooling your roll together, but if it causes you to play outside your roll's range because you assume you got it covered with easy access to more, that's the danger. If you only have $100 on one site, and want to play $10 SnGs, you're really only rolled on that site for 10 games, not nearly enough. But if you start with $100 and play the $2 games and build it up, your onsite roll can be much easily supported and you wont' be tempted to reload.

I treat each site as a separate roll, building each one up independently from the others. Ask yourself if you believe you can truly handle the $10 or $20 games and consistently win without having to reload. Do you have the skill set for these games, or did you get lucky once or twice and score a nice win thats feeding your games right now? If you got a bankroll boost, was it luck or skill...if it was luck, you'll soon find yourself looking to reload very soon.

I'm the last guy to tell you how to play your game, but I'll be the first one to say when I think you are doing wrong. Personally, with a total roll of $780, I wouldn't want to play anything more than the $5 games on any site until I built to $1000 or more, but that's my personal preference.

"Didn't want to play less than 10$ SnG's since I'm playing higher at another site and I didn't feel it would be worth the time. Now my bankroll is dead unless I can cash in this 10$ 180 man"

This quote from your OP is what I was commenting on originally. It just spells disaster looming and you didn't even notice it as you were writing it. I'll requote now with one added feature...see the difference?

"Didn't want to play less than 10$ SnG's since I'm playing higher at another site and I didn't feel it would be worth the time = Now my bankroll is dead unless I can cash in this 10$ 180 man"
  • You're a bit of a nit for only exposing 2% of your roll for stt's but I see your point. I can't really say I see the danger in reloading using you online poker money but next time I'll be more careful. Also I'll probably play exclusively mtt's so I'll loose my money slower and not really give myself an opening to spew off too much of it

Fair enough, 2% might be a bit nitty, but I wouldn't go over 5% regardless. As I said, personal perference, and it saves me from reloading continuously.

If I want to play a higher MTT, I'll try getting in on a satellite first before committing to play it.

    Good luck.
  • I thought bankroll management wasn't relevant for recreational players :)
  • Define recreational ^^'

I'm trying to maintain withdrawals of 400 per month to do fun stuff while studying. Except for my student loan it is my only income after all. Not that I'd be in trouble if that income went away, but still

(And I use the standard bankroll managment of 5% for stt's and 2 for mtt's and also the 5% max buyin and I leave if I hit 10% at a cashgame table)
