Long Time No Banter... (Semi Trip Report/Filler)(Long)

Begining note: Please be advised that I am no prolific playwrite and there are some errors and fowl use of language... and before you think this guy whines to much... I already get the point I whine at times... so please don't flame for two much whining.

Well I haven't posted in what seems like ages and ages. I've always kind of lurked but never really posted which I don't know why... This forum always seems more welcoming than P5's and 2+2. I guess things are just seemingly going pretty enjoyable for myself the last couple months.

For some fill in for all that forgot I'm a 22 year old Journeyman Millwright living in rural Alberta Canada. I work at a coal fired powerplant pulling wrenches... striking arc... etc. Still a lot to learn... but a modest trade it seems nonetheless.

I've moved out of the nest for a few years now even though my parents are down the road a half hour or so. I bought a trailer on a couple acres... and have since still bartered in games of poker... mostly being PLO and NLHE. Please bear in mind I was not properlly rolled for this... I felt this was disposable at the worst scenario as I may never have another chance to do it. It didn't take the shirt off my back and shoes off my feet..(just left me standing in my birthday suit in the wind) JK

Rewind about 3 months ago... up until this point I had been essentially just a blaster in PLO addicted to the big swings of winning huge pots. Up until a point recently I seemed to get tired of it for a large degree. I heated out a 7K heater in a matter of 2 days at 2/4. In which I withdrew 5 and was the donation station for the other 2. I took this 5 out knowing I could use it for a pretty surrial trip to live half the dream in Vegas for a week during the WSOP.

In this time I hadn't really been much of a tourney grinder... Whilst I have had some success. My biggest cash came when I finished 7 in the daily $10 30K gtd on stars for 800 and change. I felt so thrilled but yet so drowned I didn't finish top 3. But its the way shit flies... so I figured WTF and sattied into the million via a 6 max super turbo. One again running I thought semi deep for a 300ish finish. Having a self destruct moment or two overplaying AK and 1010. My dreams come crashing down for a huge score.

Hence a couple weeks later me and my father land in Vegas on June 15 if I recall correctly. Arrive at Caesars palace at 11:30 local time and cannot check in. So I'm armed with an 8K roll thinking I'm gonna bust the shit out of this house and marry some 40 year old ex hooker couger and like will be good. Hence no check in= lets fire up the 330 deepstack which starts at noon. Things roll good for a large portion of the day as I'm able to 3 bet my way in position to the supper break. Where my father finds me and I go wandering off in this maze of bingo noises looking for our room. I eventually find it and grab a bite to eat in the food court and wander aimlessly back the the pokerroom. Where yet again I'm able to 3 bet jam my way to a final table. I wish I could be more descripive in hand histories but I have since forgotted a large portion of a lot of the hands except for my bustout ones. There were a 139 runners paying 10 spots. Preceeding the following day we eliminate 3 down to 6 and agree to a 6 way chop... FLAME away. Where 4 of us took 4400 for just short of 3rd place money and two took a sniff more.

I feel this was the best bargain for my bust as any winnings over 5K I would have withheld and could very easily been out in 4 5 or 6 as 4 of us were the avg shortstack.

UP on life we precede down to freemont street for a couple yards of alcohol and twist off. For the duration of the 4 days everything rolls downhill. I fade off more Caesars deepstacks... I Venetian deepstack and miss every out in the deck at some 2/5 PLO games at the Venetian. So down 5K back to about 7. In this procress I got to meet some nice people along the way. The only two or three really notables I played with I reconed were Anna Wrobaleski/ Stuart (Zspaceman) (really friendly guy) moving to Canada by the way to get our department back on tract) and another Canadian fellow by the name of Simon if I recall I think. Friendly enough to offer me a ride to the RIO at one point though. Played what I thought was a solid LAG game.

So fast forward to Saturday and event 39. After me and father hustled the fuck out of a 175 STT. (Not really... we were all in against each other once... my A4 held vs. his KJ. ) It may of looked that way... but we didn't intend to softplay it. We chopped the shit out of it for two lammers @ 500 a piece. So I go register. And got sat in the Brasialla room at table 214 seat 7. And don't really seem a whole lot for cards but 3 bet jacks pre and low and behold and ace on flop... So close to a 3rd of my stack is gone. Second blind level.... 50/100... a10cc in the hijack... raise it up... get three callers... flop j32 two clubs... check round with about 94 callers prefolp. I c bet... Get one call. turn J.... Theres no looking back now. Dude puts me in... I can... wiff turn.. GG me... My first WSOP event I don't even make the first break.

So yarder me and old father son... walk around aimlessly and spot doyle in the 10K stud final table.. snap some polaroids... not with him... Watch Gavin Smith beak someone in the 1500... go buy some merchandise... And vanish into thin air.... back to Caesars of course.

The duration of the trip precedes to just be miniscule 1/3 cash at the local Caesars room for a day.. before departure.

All in all the Vegas trip for me was really intreaging and worth the 3K it cost of my losses and room/flight expenses... I got to put my name on the mini map of poker. Got the see what a little part of the bigtime was like and how I would do things differently. If I was to go down another time. I would not mix cash games and tournaments like I did. It would be soley cash games or soley tournaments. I found the biggest problem I had would be busting out a tournament... then playing 10bb poker at a 100+bb cash game. Not profitable when you don't get there.

Now we transpire a week later to Canada Day Eve... I fire up so tourneys on cake from money left over from before I left. And play the nightly 10K and nightly 10K bounty... I go semi deep for a min cash in one and then bust and and deeper in the bounty... proceeding to take it down in the wee hours of Canadas birthday. Happy thank you birthday Canada. The score was good for roughtly 1600US.

I was so joyus in this holy occassion... As it had been the biggest tournament score I'd had online like ever... My first 4 figure score. And probly the only real serious tournament I'd ever won other than a PLO8 or better freeroll on Pokerroom back in the days.

So now I have since transpired over to william hill on the Ipoker network where I have migrated to become a Reg at the .50/1 stakes and will continue to do so until stuff moves on...

I know the ending is kind of blunt.. but If I were to recall over the last 3 months event though I'm probly just break even the expierience and value I've learn are far superior in Value. Hope you enjoyed the read.

  • Great read, sounds like you had a great time in Vegas! On a side note, people still use polaroids?
