Looking for work

So i got the permanent layoff notice and with me having no time left on E.I. and welfare won't cover anything it has come to these desperate times advertising myself on here. Hopefully Graham won't be mad at me for doing so.

I have started trying like part time positions but with so many people looking i can't even get a call from those let alone any full time.

I know there is not alot of Barrie people on here and i do not have a vehicle so looking outside the area is a no go but thought it would not hurt to try. Heck people are even advertising themselves on facebook for work.

I have many years experience with forklift and raymond reach and a couple of years Team leader experience.

Mostly have done warehouse work the last few years.

You can post here or p.m. me for any further info:)

  • I don't know if there is GO train or other transportation from Barrie to the CNE, but the CNE Casino might still be hiring. Good luck.
  • funny you should say that, i was just looking into go, yes we have go here, but kind of confusing where it stops when you first look at it, Barrie to union station is the main one, trying to figure out what the stops are between is the hard part.

There is 6 jobs in concord that i could go for the last 2 days, sigh, there has not been 6 jobs in like 9 months here,.

So it might open some doors if i can figure out go schedule plus cab fare to go the up to 6 blocks from a go station, but then you got to figure winter and if they cancel bus or train, then your stuck.
  • I know a guy who runs a cash game in Barrie; I can find out if he needs a dealer, assuming you can deal. Not sure how many nights a week.
  • thanks pokerjah, i can't shuffle cards to save my life, lol
  • gl, there's a ton of layoffs in this area too, Windsor/Chatham, nobody hiring but I think if you can hold out things are beginning to turn around.
will you pick-up garbage for forty or fifty bucks an hour? I hear there's a need in Toronto? lol
    i know i shouldn't joke but couldn't resist

don't forget to try at your local Timmie's their always hiring, for a reason I'm sure but better than ending up at the local sallyanne, believe me
  • for 40-50 a hour YES!!!

I don't understand people who go on strike even more so nowadays, you get over 20 bucks a hour you should not be complaining cause good luck trying to find another job with that pay.

  • ok just sent in a resume and within 5 minutes got a call, lol

It is only for temporary work but something is better then nothing coming in.

So they wanted me to come in right away before the hour is up, which was like F!@# can't get down there that quick(really did not say F!@#,lol but you get the idea) so i go in tomorrow morning and hopefully it leads somewhere.
  • Good Luck Phil!!!! Just tell them you're an Ivey fan, and that you will need time off in November to see him win the Main Event LIVE!! lol

Seriously, best of luck in your interview.
  • it was a no go, which was no surprise and why i don't get too excited until everything is finalized.

I should not have even woke up today as it is a bad day and people on forums just looking for trouble is not helping.:(
  • When my league is up and running in late Sept I will be looking for someone with a vehicle but if you're close to any venues it may be one or 2 nights/wk of pay for you till you get something. When you see that my website is running go to the Contacts page and e-mail me from that address. Good luck bro.
  • thanks, will keep a eye out and in mind:)

Also got a lead about a place hiring come sept. so looks like sept. is a hot month.

Only thing i got is the flu today, lol, i am totally not feeling good today, maybe too much excitement in the 100k vip tourny last night, a friend got really deep and it was a railer party, was also railing moose, hi moose!:)
  • what's a good business to start?

hook up with graham and start a stakeing site?:)
  • can design poker forum apparel, look into a old idea i had again, oh the ideas the ideas:)
  • well someone suggested starting a inkjet cartridge refiller business, but someone up here already beat me to the punch there.

My dad keeps jokeing about starting up a produce store again, if anyone is familiar with Orillia, he started country produce. But makes sense as me and my brother can be there running it unlike the old days where he had to be there all the time which is why he sold it to the guy who owns it now, and the brother now has produce knowledge and my knowledge of some stuff.

sometimes the not serious idea is the winning idea.
  • Starting your own business takes a fair amount of capital to get off the ground, not to mention you will need to float for a few months maybe...depends on the business I guess, but its quite an undertaking.

If you have the capital, or can get it, I suggest looking into something like a franchise maybe. monster.ca has a listing of them I think, if I can find it I'll post it.

Just because someone 'beat you to the punch' doesn't mean you can't set up a competing business.

    this one looks promising
