Looking for some poker book advice again.
Okay I have read the following books:
Winning at Poker (Scharf) - My intro to poker theory. Great effort Dave, found it to be excellent
Winning Low Limit Holdem (Jones) - Another great beginners book
Theory of Poker (Sklansky) - Lots of good info here, but found some concepts difficult to understand because he uses examples in games I am not that familiar with. Will read again once better versed, because what I did understand, I got a lot out of.
So I am now at the point where I want to progress my reading. Currently I play micro limit ring games but am moving away from these to low buy-in sit an goes at PokerStars. Right now I play Limit Holdem exclusively. Here are some of the books I am considering. Please provide feedback on quality of book, suggested reading order or other recommendations.
Small Stakes Holdem: Winning Big with Expert Play (Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth)
Holdem Poker for Advanced Players (Sklansky)
Internet Texas Holdem: Winning Strategies from an Internet Player (Hilger)
Tournament Poker for Advanced Players (Sklansky)
Championship NL and PL Holdem: The Bible to winning (TJ/McEvoy)
Thanks in advance for your input and expertise
Jay

This is a must read!!!!

I'm in a similar boat to you. Maybe a couple of months further along. I read some of Sklansky's more advanced stuff first, which was probably a mistake. Starting with Theory of Poker was a good move on your part. I recommend reading books that deal with the immediate level of play you are at (or the next level you are moving to).
Small Stakes Holdem: Winning Big with Expert Play (Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth)
This will help you. The very low limit internet ring games are played soooo loosely, the stragies in this book even seem too tight. But it will definitely help you to maximize your winnings. Sure, you'll get burned occasionally but that is part of the game.
Holdem Poker for Advanced Players (Sklansky)
I've read this one. Not sure if it will help you yet but maybe after a few months of experience. It is really for higher limit games where most of the players are not complete idiots. Of course, there will still be a few. It tells you more about how to play in a game where the other guys know how to play based on odds.
Internet Texas Holdem: Winning Strategies from an Internet Player (Hilger)
Not sure about this one. I've heard mixed reviews. I picked Miller's Small Stakes book over this one. If anyone has any feedback on it, I'd love to hear it.
Tournament Poker for Advanced Players (Sklansky)
I've just ordered this one. From what I've read, it is for knowledgeable ring game players looking for the strategies needed to transition to tournaments. It may be worth your while to build your experience in cash games before you make this move.
Championship NL and PL Holdem: The Bible to winning (TJ/McEvoy)
I've just ordered this one. I can let you know in a couple of weeks.
If you are interested in tourneys, the first few books will not be much help. They will not give you any advice on tournament strategy which differs a great deal from ring game strategy. But I think you have to get comfortable with cash games before you are ready for tourneys. Spend the time studying and practising and you'll improve. At least that is what I'm hoping for.
Good luck. I hope to see you on the tables!
Does anyone else have any books to recommend?
My game continues to improve. I am using Poker Tracker to track my results and I am slowing seeing positive results. This forum has been a big help in this area, I don't post alot, but I am always lurking  Thanks.
Have you gotten through Championship PL and NL yet pkerface9?
Also 1/3 of way through Dan Harringtons - Harrington on Hold Em (tournament strategy)
and I am finding it to be really fantastic. He helps you really think about situations rather than just telling you what to do the whole time. It is a very interesing way of writing a poker book. You all should check it out - especially if you are new like me.
Dave's book is awesome for Limit Hold Em (may be good for stud too but I dont play that so have not read it)
1/2 way through Lee Jones book - very good too so far
All_Aces just got it at Christmas. I'd be interested to hear what he thinks.
Winning at Poker
Play Poker like the Pros
The Theory of Poker
Small Stakes Holdem
Holdem Poker for Advanced Players
Any ideas on what to get next? I am currently half way through Small Stakes and will then takcl Hold em for Advanced Players. The reason I would like to order my next one is that I am going on a 2 week vacation and would like some reading material just in case.
I have thought of Sklansky's tournament book, but want to know what else is available or suggested as it may be more appropriate for me to hold off based on pkerface9 comments. Right now I am focusing on 5+.50 SNGs as I seem to have more success with them as compared to ring games (not sure why)
Thanks
Jay
Thats the first time I have ever heard anyone refer to Miller as too tight. The running theme in the book is 'Well it's a got a backdoor flush draw, so raise!".
It teaches you good agressive poker and focuses on post flop play which is where the real money is won/lost in HE.
Are you reading them or are you trying to improve your game? If you are just speed reading them, you probably arent going to pick up much. Try and think about the reasons WHY they recommend plays so you can mould your train of thought.
I need to slow down a bit. Starting to reread SSH again
