Casino Regina Nov 13 FULL REPORT part II

Level 9 ante 50 blinds 150-300 My stack 8700

There are 221 players left. This amazes me. We have lost 130 players and the blinds are putting no pressure on the stacks.

Within the first three hands of this level I have A-A and A-Ks. I raise both and get NO action. Damn.

Level 10 ante 75 blinds 200-400 My stack 8750

With four minutes left in the level I have played no hands. Bad time for a drought. The big problem I have is that I have Jerry Carter to me right. Jerry is a crafty player who definitely has the re-steal weapon in the arsenal. I was basically frozen. Many of my tools were taken from me because I feared a big all-in re-steal from Jerry. A good lesson in the importance of your table draw. It can be a real major boon or bane to your tournament to get a good table. Ralph, for instance, reports that his first table was a lineup of easy to read players. Something I like to refer to as a “chip farm.”

I move in with A-Jo and lose. This take me down to 725 chips. In the next hand I am all-in from the BB with 8-7 v. A-K and I win. In the next hand I am all-in in the SB after a raise and a re-raise. I figure I am a 3-1 dog, but I want to get back into it. I call and win with A-T v. 9-9.

Hand #7: UTG raises. Player on his left moves in. I wake up in the BB with A-A and move over the top (small raise). UTG folds. I win with A-A v. A-K. I am now right back into contention.

Level 12 ante 150 blinds 400-800 My stack 16,400

Regretful hand. And, I think, another indication that I do not have my “A” game. There are two limpers and I muck K-7s in the small blind. Huh? Certainly should have taken off the flop. Of course, I would have flopped two pair.

I lose a few chips when my A-K gets beat by 9-9 (A-K on flop and 9 on river just to make it sting more).

Hand #8: The price of carelessness. I make a steal raise with T-8o in the cutoff. Jerry Carter moves all in on my from the button. I give this a lot of thought. I believe that Jerry is restealing. I have to call $6,000 into $13,600. I am getting better than 2-1. So, my choice as I saw it was to call and gamble that my 40% shot would pull through and I would have $20K. Or, fold. I decided to take my shot at getting back in. I called. Jerry announced “Nice call” thinking, of course, that I had the best hand. “Well,” I replied, “not really.” Jerry has K-6s v. my T-8o. My actual percentage was 41%. Kewl. 1% more than I guessed. However, I failed to suck out and I was eliminated.

This was a BAD PLAY. Interestingly, I’m not sure that my call was a bad play (although that is certainly open to debate), but the initial steal was bad. As stated earlier I KNOW that Jerry has the re-steal weapon in the arsenal. I made a mistake my getting myself pot committed with T-8o. Rather, I need to induce a re-steal with better value OR I need to move in with enough chips that I remove this option from Jerry. This is a leak I have suffered previously. If you are going to call, then you need to mount enough pressure to take away the resteal from your opponent.

So, I finished out of the points. My horse snuck into 10th so I got 20% of that. And, I hung onto 5th spot in the points race for a bonus $2200.

CBC met me at my house on Sunday. And, filmed a little at the radio station on Monday. IT will all be on CBC Venture Sunday Nov 28th in the evening.
