8th Annual Casino Regina Station Poker Classic Update

I am leaving tomorrow morning for Regina and I will be playing in all four events. I will be posting a daily update here for those that are interested. Any questions you may have I will be happy to answer as well.

Sloth, are you coming out on Friday again?

If anyone from PokerForum.ca makes the trip please take a moment to introduce yourself. I will be the guy in the Canadian Poker Player hat and jacket.

  • Good luck Dave!
  • I won't be able to make it this time around. :( next one for sure.

Have a great time and let us know how it all goes!
  • Station Poker Classic Day One

The theme of day one: I suck.

Seven-stud tournament. I busted early after getting in for $700! Ugh. There were 100 entrants and I left the casino early so I can't report yet one who won or prize money.

On Tuesday night Casino Regina hosted an evening of single table satellites. Most interesting, they sent invites to "the media" and had about 15 media people out. Then, during the first portion of the tournament CBC was shooting -- possibly for a national story. I will lobby today to be allowed to shoot some photos myself. They do not usually permit it, but if they will let CBC shoot film you would think they would let a poker magazine shoot a few still shots.

I am having laptop problems so I will probably not be able to post until tomorrow morning.

Today... I will try not to suck in the Omaha-8 tournament.
  • Oops... didn't log in, but that was me.
  • 8th Annual Casin Regina Station Poker Classic Day Two

Todays theme: Sometimes variance is your friend and sometimes its your enemy.

    Omaha-8 tournament. 137 entrants. I finished in 23rd spot.

Not much to report. I had 18,000 chips which was basically an average stack. I lost 14,000 into a 48,000 chip pot when I flopped a nut-nut draw that didn't get there. Sigh. Today, variance was not my friend. The only thing that I can feel good about, I guess, is that it was not actually a nut-nut draw... but it was when the card came over on the river. I had the de facto nut-nut draw (one guy flops a set, another flops a straight, I had the only low draw and the only flush draw).

I met All_Aces. He was sitting in the 15-30 game with lots of chips.

I met with two potential sponsors for the Canadian Poker Tour. It appears to me to be 90% certain that we will be announcing all of the CPT details in the next 60 days. Very cool. Much smaller than the WPT but with actual sponsorship money ADDED for the players benefit (the WPT can't make that boast).

The expectation is that the tournament today will be the biggest tournament ever in Canada. 264 players is a sellout and there is a good chance that we will get there.

There will not be another update until Sunday I am afraid.
  • 8th Annual Casin Regina Station Poker Classic Day Three and Four

    Day Three: Limit Hold'em

Huge increase over the previous classic. 254 players. First Place paid $37,000.

I busted out early. It was a horrible run of cards. In foru hours of play I won five hands -- two of them I bet the flop and everyone folded, one of them I checked my Q-Q to the river when an ace hit the board, I chopped another when my A-K top pair finished with straight on the board, and the other I actually won (A-J v. Q-Q).

However... All_aces took fifth place! $10K in a deal between the five remaining players. There is a thread somewhere else on the forum about deals... this was the STRANGEST and possible the WORST deal I have ever heard of. I talked to All_aces afterward and it sounds like it wasn't a bad deal for him. It was, however, a HORRID deal for everyone else other other than the chip leader who was given a freeroll on first place prize money without giving up ANY equity. I will post the details of this deal later.

    Day four: no-limit hold'em.

The worst day for me of the four! I was broke and had finished supper before the rest of the tournament had even reached the supper break!

I left town for the drive home when the tournament was down to about 50 players so I can't speak to how things ended up.

It was HUGE though. 275 players. Wow.

    Here's how I found it.

Click the "Search" button at the top of the forum.

    Enter the keywords

    all_aces AND deal

(be sure the AND is in caps).

    Voila!

  • ScottyZ U da bomb :D

    thanks,
    CO :D
  • Actaully, I find the search feature very handy.

I just noticed that it's actually not critical to put AND in caps. Also, if you have several search terms it's probably easier to select "Search for all terms" instead of using "and" a bunch of times.

Another nice feature is you can search using keywords and *author* (which is just below the keyword box) at the same time. This is useful for finding posts from people who don't necessarily put their own names in their posts (by way of a signature, for example).

So, you could have put "deal" as a keyword and "all_aces" as the author to see all the posts where the specific author all_aces mentions a deal. You can try some fun searches like finding every post where Dave Scharf mentions the "WSOP" or seeing how often ScottyZ discusses the finer points of "barf".

  • ConfusedONE,

I've been meaning to tell you this for a while, but your use of emoticons is really, really something else. The fact that you actually managed to tie your emoticons in the above thread to a 'theme', points out that there is also a method to your madness.

Well done, I was laughing my ass off watching the blue smiley face puke all over the yellow smiley face.

    Regards,
    all_aces
  • We're going to have to be careful here. Two smileys barfing on each other is already pushing the limits of what I for one want to see an emoticon do... ;)

Who the heck originally decided that this was something worth coding up? :?

"Hey, I'm not just satisfied with a regular old smiley face any more. To be able to truly express my deepest feelings online, I'm going to need a couple of tiny little happy face spheres yakking on each other."
