Getting owned

So I'm re-raising with good cards in good position on this one fish who hasn't really been calling my raises with Garbage, but every so often he will. 67s isn't exactly garbage but should be throwing away to a re-raise no??

So he min raises me. Which I'm never sure is just a bluff a legitimate hand or a pocket pair in this situation. It seems to depend on the player at these levels. Anyway I just don't see many 7's in his pf calling range but I guess I was wrong.... anyway I call the flop. Turn is 100% a bad call by me at this point I'm still not convinced and I think he's just trying to run one on me. River, the only thing going on in my head is, well great I now beat his pocket pair....I call.
So ridiculous.

Then this happened.

He has like nothing behind so the river shove isn't as big as it might look. But honestly wth?? He keeps making these ridiculous min raises into my legitimate hands and then gets a lucky flop or a stupidly lucky turn.

Is this variance? Or am I just sucking right meow.

The second hand I can't really see myself getting away from almost ever. The first hand though played pretty bad.

  • I don't remember which post or who, but someone made a comment of how min raises or reraises at this level are uber tells of "I own your ass", especially on paired boards. That definitely falls under this category for the first hand. The second one, not really sure I would have gotten away from the set... nope, woulda smoked my ass too. Only thing I would say is on the second hand to raise more preflop possibly as he has already shown he'll call that type of raise with suited anything.
  • Yeah, it is variance, at 6-max the swings can get pretty dirty so don't get discouraged...one thing though, I think you should be 3betting preflop to .40-.45 cents...and you need to make your flop bets bigger as well.

I was wondering about this of late. I used to use the rule of 3. Aka, if my opponent bets out 20 I re-raise 3x his bet to 80. But I found then I wasn't getting hardly any action :P But maybe I should be re-raising more to drive out these ridiculous hands. Thing is, I kind of want them to call to get value out of my hands but at the same time I don't want them to outflop me lol. Can't have it both ways unfortunately.

I will watch out for this, I think your completely right now that you mention it.

Umm, I think I found your problem: that's a 4xr not 3xr. We need to get you back on Sesame Street ;)
  • First hand:

If I'm the aggressor PF with AK but misses the board on the flop I probably do a CB 3/4 or potsized most of the time. If I get resistance I'm probably done with the hand if I miss the turn too and villain bets. As said by others: On this levels we can expect villain to have some kind of hand most of the time. And we only have 6 outs (which actually might be zero sometimes) on the river. To bad odds, so fold your AK and proceed to the next hand.

    Second hand:

I play it to the bitter end. And after this two hands I put a note on the ridiculously bad fish that got lucky 2 times in a row that he can be expected to even call raises with any random trash, at least as long as it's suuuuuuuuuuuuited. That means we have to be extra careful next time he's in the hand an a possible flush appears. But on the other hand we can expect to win good money from him when he chases his flush draws with his suuuuuuited hands.

LOL psh eff Sesame (wtf is it now Sidewalk??) I meant 3x20 = 60 and 20 + 60 = 80 Hence 3 times his bet to give me the new bet (I'm just doing the math weird). But ok for the sake of argument you are right 4x his raise.
