casino Regina Nov 12 report
315 entrants.
PokerForum.ca $20 last longer has 7 entrants.
I have never managed to meet JasonA who now owes me $200 from yesterday (I think). Unless he finished ahead of me yesterday?

There are still a ton of players left. Probably 200 at least.
I am still in with a a stack of $5000 which is a little below average. Last hand before the break lost a $8500 chips pot when my aces got cracked by a river flush. The good news is that I played the hand quietly and mitigated the loss.
In level six Blinds I think were 100 - 200 or somewhere close. I just got moved tables with about $4400. I get to the table and first hand at the new table i get dealt pocket Q's and I am two seats before the button. I raise and get called by 2 people. Flop comes A-Q -4. First guy in bets, second guy calls, I call. Turn is 9 - they are all rainbow. First guy bets second guy raises and I call - first guy folds. Next card was 6 - no chance of flush draw at this point. Guy bets into me I raise, he calls. I flip over my cards and he shows A-10.
Three hands later I am dealt AhQd. Flop comes A-K-x. I bet and button and BB call. Turn is a 8h. BB checks, I bet, button folds and BB checks. River I can't remember what it was but I bet and next guy folds.
A couple of turns later and I have built up a pretty good stack. I am at about $9500. in chips. Then I made some terrible plays in level 7 and 8. My stack is around 3,500. at supper. I end up not catching much after supper and lose a big hand with K's. Blinds are now 300-600 and the guy ended up flopping a set of J's. Had another real bad play on my part when I was dealt 66 utg and I played the hand way to long it ended up costing me about $2,500 in chips. I thought I could steal the pot and it obviously didn't work.
All in all it was a great experience. It was my first live big tourney. I learned a ton today and had a great breakfast with the guys from the forum. Pretty honored to actually know that I beat out all aces and Mike as I am not up to their level - hopefully not yet anyway. Can't wait until next time.
I just wanted to say I had a blast in Regina. It was my first live tournament, and I absolutley enjoyed it. All of the things I was anxious about before arriving turned out to be non-issues and I had a great time.
I'll be back next time Casino Regina does a big tournament - for sure.
I keep a blog going and just finished writing a [quite] lengthy post about my experiences there, so if you're interested in the details (along with a couple of hands) you can read it here URL=http://mork.ca/]mork.ca[/URL.
If you take the time to read it, let me know how you think my play was on that first hand I go over. It was really the turning point for me, and realistically I shouldn't have just done 1 rebuy after it (either walk away or rebuy 3 times would be the two correct options I think). In fact, that hand, during level 4, was the single largest pot I lost through the entire night.
I managed to stay alive for many mroe hours - but it was just that, 'staying alive', I was never able to truly recover and take up any sort of commanding position.
I think there was about 110-130 players when I finally went out.
I was hoping to get a chance to meet up with you Dave, but alas - you're a very busy man (where were you during the supper break? - decided to pass on the 'stew-like' substance?). In case your wondering, there was a good amount of chit-chat about your table right from the 1st break due to the heavy hitters whom were seated there (including yourself). "man, did you see that one table? holy cow, it's got Dave Scharf, and _____, and _____. (I don't recall the names). I even noticed a little spectator crowd gathering around you guys early on (behind you on the raised platform).
I generally go to me room. I like to take a break during the supper hour and escape from the constant poker chatter. I prefer to rest my mind so the supper break I am not there.
Hehe, oh well on your time I guess...
good call. I went for a walk outside to grab some fresh air during each break.
It's actually an aspect I found interesting amungst all of the people I met. I often asked, "so, where you from?" to try to start a more non-poker sort of conversation - I usually got the answer but it never really lead to any further small talk.
It felt like I was breaking some sort of unwritten rule or something, thou shall not talk about anything but poker.
I guess everyone keeps their focus one way or another.
