Port Perry tourney May 13?

Let's try talking about poker in here for a few minutes.

Anyone plan on going to this tourney on Wednesday? I will know in a couple days if I can make it. Providing there are still seats left..

Comments

  • There are 64 seats left right now after I purchased my seat. It will probably sell out by the phone registration deadline of May 10. Three forumers remain near the top of the GBH points race.
  • I just registered and I am number 49 so that means there is 61 spots left.

BlondFish is right this will probably sell out by phone registration
  • I just reserved my seat. I was number 51
  • Is this a decent tournament to play in (ie. high patience factor and skill level) if we only play in one of these tournaments? What I mean to say, they seem to collect a portion of the prize money for a freeroll I believe at the end so is it worth it for players just playing it as a stand alone tournament?
  • Yes, if you search for my GBH analysis, I believe it's a Skill Level 5 tournament. They take only 2% or $10 from the prize pool for the freeroll, which is offset anyway by the free buffet coupon worth at least $10, plus the stylish trophies are a free bonus to the final eleven players. Unlike non-OLGC casinos which automatically take an extra 3%-4% for staff gratuities, GBH does not take an extra cent so don't forget to tip the dealers when you cash.

As a couple of the new GBH players found out after having had 30% of their 2008 Las Vegas winnings withheld and mostly unrecoverable, GBH is a much better tournament to play in.

  • How far is this casino from Mississauga area.
  • I would say probably just under 1 hour and 30mins

The Tourney I cashed in at Caesars last month had a 3% hold back for gratuities, which I don't mind since it makes it real easy when cashing out. I don't have to worry about tipping and how much. The TD gives me my paper work to cash out and then shows me the tip line for my convenience. I asked him if they did not already deduct 3% for tips to which he replied yes and looked away...

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend this month's Port Perry tourney after all.

    GL!
  • Tried finding the following information online but without luck.

    A few quesions.

    1. To pre-register do you have to go to the casino or is there a way to do it over the phone?

    2. What time does the tournament start?

    3. Typically how long does the tournament run?
  • 1. You can call the casino to pre-register

    2. 10am

    3. typically about 10 to 12 hours before there is a winner

Trophies for top 11? That's kinda funny...for WSOP main event I can kind of see but even then...

Yeah, I assumed that if you were playing it would be a decent tournament, just wasn't sure with the freeroll. I must have missed your post with your analysis. I was hoping for a thread like you did last year, '2008 Tournaments in Canada'.

Turningstone has a deep stack tournament the same day and was considering to go even with the 30% extra rake, but decided it's much to far to go on a weekday.

From another post, you mentioned that it was a 'tough' field so initially I didn't want to bother but since there aren't any good tournaments around anytime soon, I think I'll take a shot at this one and help 'soften' the field.
  • That was probably because it was the biggest buy-in in Ontario so far this year. Some of those players may not make the trip to GBH again until the Summer Classic in August or when the official announcement comes out that there won't be a WPT $10K event this year. :'(

  • Oh my! I just called in to register and she told me that the last spot was taken "5 minutes ago"...

What should I do about my day off...maybe I'll head to Turningstone after all...?

  • The players I know from the forum that played did not money and the best finish was 29th out of 110 players
