when to show??

simple question i guess

is it ever appropriate in your opinion to show your cards when you dont need to?

i know some people will say never to do it, but i think you can get a pychological advantage by doing it at some points....

  • I make it a point not to show my cards at any point. The only time I might show my cards is if the guy is a real pain in the a$% and just being a jerk. After I take half his money or TC then I'll show him my cards :)

  • I like to never show my cards unless I know that the people at my table know that I am a tight player. I think that by showing one hand that ins't very strong could help you to get more callers next time because they might put you on some weaker cards. However, I make an effort to only do this once a night and only if I feel that it will increase the action that I can get from players.
  • I never show my cards because there is nothing to be gained by doing such. It's a much bigger psychological advantage to keep them guessing and off guard.
  • If you ever watch what Annie Duke did to Helmuth at the tourny of champions, you'll see why showing your card(s) can be advantageous.
  • If a guy has been a pain in the ass (and therefore I don't like him), I'll show a bluff he should have called to try and tilt him, but other than that, never. This probably occurs once every 50 games.
  • I show my cards quite often at my local home game...However, I don't show both my cards...

I usually flip one card, most of the time my lowest to intrigue the other players....

I never show if I have the nuts, but if I pull a nasty bluff you will most likely see both of my cards...

I wouldn't recommend showing your cards at a Casino or big tourney though...
  • I show my cards when I'm in the BB, and it gets folded all around to me. I don't generally look at my cards until the action is on me, and if it's folded around, I just turn them face-up.

Nobody has any hope of getting a read on me this way, and hopefully I'm giving the SB a small incentive to fold to me, because that way he knows he'll get to see my cards, and satisfy his curiosity.
