WSOP PokerStars Contract

He Guys
First of all sorry that I hav'nt been around here much....well I have been reading every now and then but not posting. I was just wondering about the PokerStars contract for the WSOP.....feelings? I mean the chances of a guy winning this thing are pretty slim so should a guy sign and be happy or not. What kind of deals could a guy expect if he made the final table without a brand?

Thanks

  • If you are lucky enough to win a WSOP ME seat through any site, you should be happy to sign your life away in all that paperwork. If you make the final table, it is much better IMHO to have a guaranteed contract, such as $1-$10 million from P*, FTP or UB. In my case, PartyPoker does not sponsor anybody, so if hell freezes over, the Leafs win a Stanley Cup AND I make the ME final table, :D then I would try to sign up with a poker agency such as Poker Royalty.

Or be bugged to death by Oliver.
  • Yea, I think if you are able to qualify then its probably best to just sign their contract. They have a few added incentives and though if you do win the ME you could probably get more money elsewhere, I wouldn't be getting too greedy at that point and the million worth of buyins isn't too bad at all.
  • It seems pretty much like "We own you for a year, here's a bunch of money" or did I miss some of the finer details?

No but is there anything wrong with a bunch of money!

Remember you win the ME you are set for life!

Thats how I felt also! And its actually 16 months since the final table is in November. Dont get me wrong i would be happy with the money but there is also other things. I have a family and not being around them for that long would probabbly mean that I would be signing another kind of contract. One other thing is the thought of being OWNED. On the other hand they give you 100K VPP so depending on your current level this could be a few grand also.
  • While you would be away from your family for a while, I highly doubt they would be dragging you all over hell and back every week. There are some big tourneys they would want you in, like EPT LPT or APPT ones, but you're still probably looking at every third week at most. My guess is you could probably take the family with you. I think a lot of their time they would need/want you for is being on pokerstars itself to increase people buying in to tourneys. If I've got $100 set aside to spend on a tourney, I might just be willing to throw in an extra $20 or maybe $50 to take a shot at busting the current ME champ. But maybe that's just me...
  • It used to be that if you wore their gear during the Main Event they would pay for your hotel stay. Things have progressed in the last 4 years or so.

I don't like the contract myself unless it was a free roll or FFP tourney.
If I win my way in why should I have to sign my life to them for 1.4 years? I won my way and the prize pool covers my entry, they did not GIVE it to me?
The deal they offer seems to be pretty decent but they own you for that period of time. Yes it would be inconvenient for a family person to travel all over the place to make appearances and play their tournies..
  • They will give you 1m for 1st place of that, 500K in live tourneys and 100k in on-line tourneys has to be used....ok if your avg. buy-in is 10K thats 50 tourneys, plus 100K for on line. HHmmm atually you could blow most of the 500k at the wsop.

I saw a post somewhere by Shaundeeb on 2p2 about how his buyins at the WSOP will total around the $130K range, that's without the 50K HORSE and probably some of the other events. Pretty sure you can use that up between WSOP, EPT, APPT and WPT. The online ones you can pretty much use up between WCOOP and SCOOP and various other big weekly tourneys.
