Seneca Casino

I'm planning to head over there for the long weekend coming up in May
was wondering what kind of limits they usually run on the weekend??
anyone know??
anyone gonna be over there on that weekend?

  • I believe they run 1/2NL, 2/5NL,2/4FL and usually a PLO game.

I'm sure they'll have more if it's busy on the long weekend.

    Please post a trip report!

  • Be aware that they have both 100 and 200 max 1/2 tables....
  • The rake is $3 on the flop.
$1 Jackpot (theft) if the pots hits $20.
Another $1 if the pot hits $40.

So if you're playing a $20 pot on the flop, you get raked $4.

    Yuck.

I'll leave you to speculate how this changes your strategy.

Well this is less than most of the undergrounds, I believe the same as Niagara and certainly is the same as many Vegas and AC rooms..

I don't like jackpots either but apparently it encourages the casual player...

Yes, but they offer free booze.

If the dealers deal 30 hands an hour it will cost you at most $9+tips an hour to drink.. I'm pretty sure I can drink $9 worth of booze and hour...

What's the most you've ever lost/won while drinking and playing poker.
  • well...free booze is what i'm going for mostly
but the rake seems kinda of steep right? unless it's underground but is there limit games they run? or just NL??
  • As Johnnie said above, 2/4 limit is the lowest, if you can stand it......
  • And remember, NEVER play any tournament or satellite at Seneca. Good luck.

Why? Are there legal low buy Tournaments ($50-$200) in the Toronto area that I don't know about?

Buddy just has a hard-on for Seneca since they withheld on his satellite win. Have you tried the Orangeville tourney? relatively rake free and risk free.
  • I think you also have to remember that if you're a Canadian going to Seneca and win in a tourney, you're going to get slammed on taxes too...

Yes, lots, including the ones I have posted about before. Congratulations to the female forumer who chopped first place in today's rebuy tournament at Casino Brantford with $100 buy-in! "cheers: She will try to defend at next Thursday's $100 freezeout tournament. Note that you can now phone to buy your seat instead of having to go to the casino.

Brantford also has cheap $140 satellites to the Canadian Open Poker Championship in Calgary in May! I'll post the details later.

Am I right when I read the blinds are only 15min and double each level? In fact going from level 3 to 4 it more than doubles... If that is correct that's worse than the Excalibur donkaments that you ribbed me about....
Why would any reasonably skilled player play those.....? I realize that the rake is only $10. making it good from that perspective but good god man, that structure is horrible...
  • No, the blinds are 20 minutes. I posted the full analysis before of the Brantford tournaments, which are decent for low buy-in casino tournaments. The rake is 15% or less + 0% for staff tips + 0% taxes, while Seneca's highly -EV tournaments were something like 17% rake + 4% staff tips + 4% dealers' bonus + 30% withholding rake.

Ok, I think I see it but everywhere else the structure is only 15 min blinds for the $100. buy in, Brantford doesn't seem to differentiate. Are you sure the $100. tourney uses the same structure as the $200. freezout?
  • Unless I'm going blind, all the "Blinds" links for Brantford shows 20 minutes. See https://www.olgpoker.com/calendar/pu_blinds.cfm?id=191 -
    1ST - $25 - $25 - 20 Minutes

  • If you are mostly a limit player OP, come to Brantford that's all we spread.
    2/5
    5/10
    10/20 etc
  • My point is there are no Legal Tournaments that run on weekends in the low buy-in range in the GTA. Great that there was a $100 one on Thursday but what regular 9-5 Joe is going to play that?

with all the clubs now running in the GTA, and no busts in the last six months, you may want to consider playing in a non-legal tournament as there are tons to choose from. If you are worried about getting busted, just stick to the tournaments being run by the cops (seriously). They play poker to, you know. If you can't beat them, join them.
  • Where are the cops.. err municipal workers playing?
