Getting bad vibe from home game.

Hey

Just got back from a pretty good night of poker but was wondering how to approach a situation.. I just started playing with these guys a little while ago at our local casino and have been playing good and winning really good. Most of them are regulars and older than i am..22. I can make chat with some of the guys but dont have much to talk about with others and now tonight a couple of them start saying things like ya know most of us just come here for the social fun with others and shit almost trying to tell me im playing to serious or something??? i never celebrate a win, i make BIG calls, and play my best i dont know im a student and have been making a living off the game since i learned it this past christmas... havent had the experience yet to understand the kind of ppl u can find at a poker table... just sore loosers or should look for a new place to play?

They seem like sore losers. If you're doing really well then why would you leave? I guess with poker you have to face some adversity and just bear with it as long as the monies are shipped your face. If I were you I would have wanted to say "aw really that's nice, social fun, well I'm here to make money, but keep having your 'social fun'" lol.........or at least I would've thought that in my head.

I think in general, older guys are gunna be tilted when some young gun sits down and is doing well in the game, happens to me sometimes at the casino but it's all good.

is this a serious question? just seems very inauthentic to me.

if you require the game to make your living and pay your bills...why are you asking us if the insecurities of the other players should be reason for you to quit the game? clearly you should continue to play.
  • I am also confused what exactly you are worried about. Sure when money is involved people will become bitter, but you shouldn't let that get to you unless you feel your physical safety is in jeopardy.
  • Alright, i think ive been reassured these guys are just sore loosers.. ive just never come across very many bitter people like that in the short time ive played. Ill just shrug it off like i did and go on..

Also its not my only form of income but its paying all my bills and then some lately, i also work. Guess ive just been lucky to have not run into ppl like that yet

No offence really but you can't be playing that much that it's paying your bills and then some if you haven't run into players like this. They're at every table(casino or home games), complaining when they get called or what others played etc. You can't escape them.
  • I'm with the other guys.

You're good enough to do this for a living, yet you've never run into people who give you a hard time for making big calls?

And I play at casinos all the time, and I've NEVER heard anybody at a table say, we're just playing a social game.

If you walk into a casino, it's money, not social time, and everyone knows that.
  • While I am not sure on the OP's "real" situation, I can honestly say, I ran into this exact thing my first time at a casino. I was over in Whitecourt, AB and they had one 1/2 table running. It was my first time live-cash, but, I had played a lot tourney live, and enough online cash to play well enough to sit down. The pit boss was very friendly and led me over to the little cashier table (not a booth), and got me chips and told me about the table..."mostly regular locals, no pros..." etc... and I sat down...

I was fed some pretty good cards and won some decent pots..made some good calls...and it wasn't long that I felt very uncomfortable there, comments about it being "social" and "just for a good time" cropped up...I didn't stay but a couple hours..and left.

The next casino I played live cash, it was a completely different scenario...I won big, but everyone was very respectful, no crass comments...etc..this was a much larger casino in Penticton, BC.

    So, yeah, it does happen.
  • just start your own home game and dont invite them, that'll teach them
