Home Poker equipment

Interested in what equipment people use in their home games?

Myself I run either Copag or Modiano plastic cards. Though sometime I have to breakdown to the Bicycle cards because some of the group like fresh cards every couple of hours:(.

I also graduated from dice chips to Paulson Pharaohs( what a difference).

Still looking for a deal on a poker table and in the end may need to go to a topper.

  • For cards, I only use KEM...acetone based, washable cards that keep their "static" really well for easy shuffling and dealing.
Chips...Card Suit blanks 11.5g from Gambler's General Store in Vegas. These chips are starting to "crack" slightly as the clay has dried out. Not complaining though because they're 19 yrs old..they don't owe me a thing.
As for the table, I have one of those foldable toppers and it's been great as the boys and I always rotate the game around. Have table will travel. :)
  • The only thing I don't like about the 'foldable table toppers' is the seams. Makes gathering massive amounts of chips difficult, and cards don't gracefully float across them.

However, they do maintain a low storeage footprint and probably don't cost a ton.
  • I prefer using laminated notebook paper hand drawn and coloured by my children (also known as the Zunni sweat shop), it makes card replacement easy.

For chips I like to use my collection of pog's from the 90's. A big one also is used as the dealer puck. I've covered them with masking tape and assigned values in pen or marker, again flourishes are provided by the Zunni Sweat Shop crew.

As for the table, I built my own from an old dresser (drawers = great place to store tokes) and hand painted it with the ZSOP logo (Zunni series of Poker of course). Chairs are of the lawn variety kept in constant repair by hand stitching.

    Hope that helps :)

I think we have a winner. Well done.

Awesome, when is the next forum home game
  • SFOBV. The next Forum game will be when the sweat shop crew finishes the denoms on all the chips needed for the multiple re-buys by Mario and Mark, as they both try desperately to win their $5.00 last longer bet.

From what Mario says, Mark lasts a lot longer......

Side note, I'm glad you see the advantages to the Zunni Sweat Shop Crew's way of chip creation... Imagine the pickle we'd be in if I ran out of chips.

Brag: Awesome at Pogs so I have an almost limitless supply...
Beat: Both Mario and Mark would last longer than I... :(
Variance: Opportunity for Sweat Shop Crew to finally get team uniforms made up with profits from game?

Check the 'Buy & Sell section of this forum. There are a few people selling tables.

Kijiji might also help in your search

Something you should consider ... If you are not having a single dealer but everyone is taking a turn at dealing, a normal "race track" shaped table is not the best. Its a bummer if you are stuck at the end. I have a 66 inch round table that I use. Its a bit of a reach but it's the same for everyone. Being round it seats eight comfortably and if an extra player or two show up you just tighten up the seating.

Hope this helps with your home game.
  • Curmmy does have a point with the oval table, but, that is easily alleviated by using speed cloth on the felted surface. I switched my table over to it recently and love it.

Another thing I noticed about the wood oval track, is that it is noisy. People playing with chips on it makes a lot of racket. I switched mine over to a full felt as well and am much happier.

That being said..you can get some half decent toppers in the meantime, pretty cheap.

Big Slick Custom Made is where I get all my stuff.
  • I use Kem playing cards.
I currently use dice chips but the pharaoh fund is slowly building.
I have a custom made table from FullHouse Poker Parties in London, ON. Cream railing on black suited speed cloth and a dealer cut out.
2 weeks ago I added a full size fridge to the poker room that is just for beer. 2 hours later I found out it can hold 6 24's, no problem.

I'm thinking you're a little light, but don't tell mrsmoose.
  • I snowed my poker profits into chips so essentially there were all free. ;) I'd like to thank all online donks 2005-2008 for buying my chips. I'd like to think the vast majority were a 'reasonable' price but of course casinos don't have very many $500 chips and up and also very few casinos have fractional chips, so the $.25s, $.50s, $500s, and $1000s were fairly spendy. My $.25s, $.50s and $2.50s are all live chips so at least they carry their face value.

When a casinos go out of business the chips are usually destroyed but depending on the local laws, they might be drilled or notched to mark them as cancelled. Of course this also kind of reduces their usefullness for playing with them. Alternatively they are cancelled with a hot stamp on one or both sides. This process also sometimes warps or cracks the chip. Rarer still is to find casino chips that are not marked at all. They may be worn or dirty from casino use. Rarest of all is mint, uncirculated chips that were never in play. Sometimes they come from casinos that were planned but never opened. Many of my chips are mint.

As an aside, if you want to create a cash set, super amazing sale for used casino chips right here:
