Poker Tournaments

On January 28, 2009, Casion Niagara hosted a $10K Super Bowl Tournament with a $115 buy-in. I'd like to attend something like this in the future, but can't seem to find any info online about when / where these types of events are held.

Can someone tell me where a good place to get information about poker tournaments around the GTA / Niagara is?

Thanks,
Rubens

 I may only have time to post about decent tournaments that I'm considering going to, though. I knew about the Casino Niagara tournament on February 1 (not January 28 ), but wanted to play a Sunday Major online instead. Unfortunately, there continues to be not a single online resource which lists all the casino tournaments available in Canada. :'(
  • I run into the same problem when hunting for tournaments. I pretty much narrowed it down to just having to call all the casino's in the area i am going to be in to see what is going on there and when.
I'm thinking someone should talk to all these dam places and see if a site can be created for them to quick link tourney info on for all us players. Would it not be to their advantage and ours to have something like that out there.

Graham, me smells a business opportunity.
  • Yeah graham, and i'll only take 1 or 2 buy-ins (of my choice) as trademark payment. LMAO j/k....but seriously...i think its something that alot of people would appreciate and use regularly. and hey...if coin can be made...why not!!
  • I don't see where there is any business opportunity as far as making money..... And who is going to call all of the casinos on a regular basis to keep it up to date? The casinos themselves rarely seem to even make the info available on their own websites....and have little incentive to do so... Remember poker makes them very little profit (per sq ft) compared to slots/table games...

I was hired? Doesn't hiring imply remuneration? Oh wait a minute... all of the adulation for us mods is enough remuneration.... :)
  • true that...they don't make much i would think...mind you...they probably made more in rake when they had the bigger LHE tables instead of the little 1/2 and 2/5's NLHE...LOL...but it is a shame that if we as players want to play tourneys...we gotta search high n low to find em.

I would think improved traffic to this site may lead to more money? if there was a central segment of this site that tracked all the upcoming tournaments in Ontario, that potential players could refer to on a constant basis, I think you would see more regular traffic on this site, and new users. The word might spread and maybe you could link up with CPT in some capacity. But if you would rather this site be populated with T & A threads, I ain't complaining (hell, its your business).

btw, I thought this site was to promote "Poker with a Canadian Perspective"?
  • Sorry for the late reply all as I haven't been online. At least I know I am not alone when it comes to trying to find casino tournaments in our area.

Maybe the best we can do for now is post here of upcoming events.

    Thanks all,
    Rubens
  • Does anyone know of any upcoming Hold' em tournaments within a 2 hour drive of Toronto? A buddy of mine was saying we should play in a bigger tournament, but I haven't been able to find any upcoming events.

Perhaps down at Niagara or at Rama?

    Thanks,
    Rubens

Darn, this would've been perfect. Looks like they don't start up again until September.

    Thanks compuease.
  • See my posts about the many tournaments in Casino Brantford, Great Blue Heron Casino and Point Edward Casino. A bunch of forumers are playing this Thursday and next Wednesday.

  • Ok thanks BlondeFish, will check them out.
  • Really stupid question because I've never actually played in a formal tournament.

Do these tournaments usually have real dealers at every table? Obviously the answer to that is yes at a Casino, but what about the Orangeville or Belwood tournaments?

Or does the dealer rotate around the players at the table the way you would in a home game?

    Thanks.

Not stupid at all. The league games and I assume the Belwood one as well will have assigned dealers who also play as well. This keeps the game moving much faster as most of these dealers are quite experienced. lol... well maybe not since I'm one...

ie dealer button moves around the table but each player doesn't actually deal the cards.
  • Nice, now I don't have to feel so bad as the guy who always accidentally flips over someones card!

    :)
