Trip report (hopefully a worthwhile one) to come
Deadmoney may be coming down for the same time not sure which events he is planning on playing.
Yeah I am thinking either one as well. I think I am booking either Mirage/TI/Venetian. If you want we can co-ordinate a meet up as well.
Imperial Palace from U$40, code IPRENT8
Bally's from U$45, code BPRENT8
Harrah's from U$49, code HPRENT8
Flamingo from U$59, code FPRENT8
Rio from U$69, code RPRENT8
Paris from U$79, code PPRENT8
Caesars Palace from U$100, code CPRENT8.
Edit: I just looked at Harrah's site, and some prices are actually lower than the above, especially with a Total Rewards card, e.g., U$25 for Imperial Palace.
I will be taking shots at an Event 54 seat in a WSOP official satellite location in Canada, so my plan for now is to arrive with a forumer in Las Vegas by June 28 afternoon. He will register for Event 54, along with me if I win a seat. PartyPoker gives its WSOP qualifiers an unpublicized but great bonus of free accommodation for at least 7 nights, so I'm hoping that I'm allowed to stay at Monte Carlo Resort starting from June 28 until at least July 4. I plan to play on Day 1A, then will book my flight when I'm done.
This summer, we are delighted to provide the utmost in comfort and exclusivity - two to four incredible nights in a luxury suite at Venezia at The Venetian on select Value Days. Please check The Venetian - Resort, Hotel, Casino. for availability.
The email states that it is specific to the recipient (you have to quote your Club Grazie number when you call the toll free number) but I suspect anyone who's a member has or will receive this offer.
I called and snagged four nights in the Venezia tower for $29/night while I'm in Vegas for the WSOP. The offer is for specific nights, but right now there's quite a few available nights for June (in fact there's only four days that aren't available). You can use this offer as often as you like as long as there are available nights but you can't use it consecutively (i.e., for more than four consecutive nights at a time).
Might be worthwhile to sign up online for Club Grazie if you haven't already. There's a link on the Venetian website's home page.
I grabbed a 2200 sq foot condo just off the strip (Platinum Condos) for the stay (jun/26-jul/02)
I will be playing the Saturday event as I fly in Friday hopefully not able to play another tourney that weekend because I will be final tabling the WSOP event....LMAO!!!!
I don't know if I want to do volume tournament wise or do one big one like WSOP, although from what I have heard and read the smaller events are very soft but you do have to run well in them.
Last year's particular event everyone was in the money after day 1.....so go figure....10 hours of play they went from 2600 to 280....sick!!
Out of curiousity, what did this cost / where did you find it?
I am going down at the end of the month. May try to satellite into one of the 1k tourneys or try one of the smaller events at another hotel.
I grabbed it off Cyberrentals.com, originally I was looking at the Signature hotel (MGM) cause there are 5 of us going and we wanted to stay together.
For 6 nights it was 1400US taxes in. Regular price on the website for the hotel/condo is 3300 so I think we did ok. It has 2 bedrooms/bathrooms and full living room/kitchen, and it is a quick walk to the middle of the strip (its off flamingo dr) which is better for me as I want to play at the Venetian and Rio while I am in Vegas. There are a couple of people coming (gf included) that aren't big gamblers so it was a good locale for them as well to either hit the strip and do some site seeing or just relax in a quieter part away from the noise of the strip.
Ah nice... did you negotiate, or was it a special listing?
When we go down I usually rent a house and cars (for transportation to the strip) but since a couple of of people going with us are going for the first time I thought it would be good to stay close to the strip for the "tourist" feel.
Most times on cyberrentals if you give them a ball park price based off of what they are asking they usually will try to meet it for you. I had a tougher time with the proximity to the strip as I was trying to low ball people (I wanted to pay 1000-1200 for the 6 days for 5 people), but for this price I was able to get everyone together in a bigger unit and the extra we paid in comparison to staying at a hotel right on the strip (say TI/Flamingo/Ballys) we will save on food costs cause we can goto the grocery store and pick up breakfast food and some snacks cheaper.
I always recommend staying off the strip in a house/condo if possible if you have more than 4 people. It always works out better plus you all get a nice room to sleep in, space to lounge, most times a pool/backyard....it's just a comfort level for me. I hate being cramped up in a hotel room and when I am done playing, the fact that I have to come back to a room and sit there with nothing to do sucks. (until I get enough rest to go back out and grind some more..lol)
But definitely try the site look at the prices and try to go 100-300 lower saying that is your budget and ask them what they can do for rates. GL
I'm down for a pool tourney at the Riviera that starts on the 23rd - 30th......with some poker tourneys mixed in depending on schedules. Then all poker after that.
If anyone's down during that time and wants to meet up, let me know.
Might go around that time now that I'm not going to play the $1K tilt fest...depends if I can get a ticket to the NHL Awards I guess.
I am out the 26th from Buffalo
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DREAM TEAM POKER TO HOLD EVENT AT THE 2009 WORLD SERIES OF POKER
Team-Based Event to be played during final days of 40TH Annual WSOP
BEVERLY HILLS & LAS VEGAS, MAY 19, 2009: Dream Team PokerTM has taken the industry by storm in the few short months since their inaugural event. Giving team-based poker validation with their successful structure, Dream Team Poker will host a tournament at the 2009 World Series of Poker®. The event will be held at the Rio® All-Suite Hotel & Casino from July 12-13, 2009 with the buy-in of $500 + $60 per player ($1,680 per team). The first 300 teams that pre-register on Dream Team Poker will receive personalized jerseys for the tournament.
"After seeing the terrific response to the recent Dream Team Poker tournaments in Las Vegas, we thought a team-based event would be a fun addition to the end of the WSOP," said Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP Commissioner. "The Dream Team Poker event is one of the many new elements added in 2009 that will help make this summer a memorable one for all WSOP players and fans."
Dream Team Poker has quickly gained traction and saw significant growth in the past six months alone. The speed of progression that Dream Team Poker experienced can be attributed to the two successful events held in November 2008 and March 2009. The invitation-only opening event was sold-out within weeks and was attended by top pros and celebrities. The most recent event at Caesars Palace garnered record attention from the media, professionals and average players, who turned out by the dozens to play. The tournament sold out the Caesars poker room with 148 teams and 444 players.
"The WSOP and the Rio have really shown their commitment to the players in continuing to innovate and try new concepts," said Daniel Delshad, CEO of Dream Team Gaming. "Bringing our brand to the Rio during the WSOP and onto the most hollowed ground in the sport is a powerful way to introduce Dream Team Poker to the world."
Dream Team Poker has added a new dimension to the poker industry with their patent-pending team-based tournament structure. It brings a new layer of competition and strategy to the game of poker while providing team-based and individual prize pools for the players.
Dream Team Poker will have a booth outside of the Amazon Room throughout the World Series of Poker. Staff will also be on hand to answer questions about the tournament and to explain the rules and structure.

About Dream Team Poker
Dream Team Poker is a new "team-based" structure and scoring system for tournament poker. Dream Team Poker's patent-pending scoring system allows players to compete on an individual basis while getting scored as a team, giving each player better odds and chances to win money as they compete for individual and team prizes. Casinos benefit from Dream Team Poker's structure as players have new incentives to stay at the property after busting out, resulting in longer hotel reservations, more meals eaten at casino restaurants, and general increase on property, which generates more side play revenue.
Founded in 2007, Dream Team Poker is growing rapidly and licensing its tournament structure to many of the nation's largest and popular casinos. It is the first gaming product developed by Dream Team Gaming, a privately held company headquartered in Beverly Hills, CA. World Series of Poker
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the largest, richest and most prestigious gaming event in the world awarding millions of dollars in prize money and the prestigious gold bracelet, globally recognized as the sport's top prize. Featuring a comprehensive slate of tournaments in every major poker variation, the WSOP is poker's longest running tournament in the world, dating back to 1970. In 2008, the event attracted 58,720 entrants from 124 different countries to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and awarded over $180 million in prize money. The creation of the new delayed Main Event final table more than doubled ratings on ESPN year over year. The WSOP in December, 2008 was named the 7th most admired sports brand in North America by the Turnkey Sports Survey, trailing only the older and more established NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR and PGA Tour among sports properties. In addition, the WSOP has experienced groundbreaking alliances in broadcasting, digital media and corporate sponsorships, while successfully expanding the brand internationally with the advent in 2007 of the World Series of Poker EuropeSM. It's different. Everyone here is playing in the same tournament and it's played like a regular MTT except with teams.
Have you figured out where you're staying yet? I'm renting a car for the time I'm there since I'm not staying within walking distance of the Rio. My son will be joining me for the last 5 nights of my stay.
I'm actually staying one night more than originally planned thanks to Air Canada. They changed my flight back from Sat night (June 27) to Sat morning. Rather than lose a day in Vegas I got them to put me on the Sun morning flight. That has worked out rather nicely for me (and Junior) - I've snagged tickets to see Clapton my last night there, which originally I couldn't do because of the Sat evening flight!
Haven't booked as yet, lotsa time.. lol. Most likely will book Excalibur for $31. per night at least for part of the time. I may also arrange a car for part of the time. I may also play the seniors event, (perhaps the plo and o8 as well) on Sat June 20th at the Golden Nugget as a warmup.... Where in Canada are you? Perhaps we should take this offline via pm..
So now I am staying an extra day and Caesars is COMPING me for the extra night on Friday. AWESOME
