1.20 Sit'n'go short handed Question

I played this hand SO BADLY! haha But I have a few questions about it. 3 handed im on the button and the blinds are 75/150.

Seat 2: ButzekTgmd (8425 in chips)
Seat 4: califonia35 (2960 in chips)
Seat 9: Quinner777 (2115 in chips)
ButzekTgmd: posts small blind 75
califonia35: posts big blind 150
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Quinner777 [2d As]
Quinner777: raises 250 to 400
ButzekTgmd: calls 325
califonia35: folds
*** FLOP *** [4h Qs 8h]
ButzekTgmd: checks
Quinner777: bets 450
ButzekTgmd: calls 450
*** TURN *** [4h Qs 8h] [Jd]
ButzekTgmd: checks
Quinner777: checks
*** RIVER *** [4h Qs 8h Jd] [4s]
ButzekTgmd: bets 900
Quinner777: ??

Villain is fairly tight/solid player I can't tell here if he has put me on the exact kind of hand that i have and is bluffing, or if he made a good hand and was hoping to trap me into putting in more chips.

For those interested I ended up folding the hand. How could I have played this hand better? Should I be shoving turn? River? Not C-betting here? Thanks.

  • Its not awful as played. Your pretty clearly behind after you get flatted there on the flop. Id expect all draws to be flop shoved by any reasonable opponent so theres very little value in a hero call here

But given the stack sizes I prefer just shoving preflop.

Um....you have air. Nothing. Nil. Nada. ACE HIGH! Of course you fold.

    You should have:

    1. Pushed preflop. Raising less then 3x the BB againest a monster stack is a terrible idea. He will call with anything if you let him in for cheap.
    2. Surrendered on the turn. Clearly you're beat. I Get out of the hand.
    3. Check-Raising in a $1 tournament usually doesn't work so well. Most of those low limit players have no idea what a c-r means or how to react.

are you suggesting that he fold behind the opponent's check? that would definitely confuse the opponent.

like others said, just shove pf.
  • Thanks for the tips guys, I'm fairly new to the game, so just trying to figure out how to handle different situations. I'm assuming if our stack sizes were about the same should I have played the hand the way I posted? Or should I be shoving pf anyway? It makes sense to shove pf when his stack is so big because he then just puts all kinds of pressure on me when I don't hit the flop.

    Jack high trumps all.

    And just shove preflop.
