Opening cards early?

Someone told me that Doyle Brunsen during a wsop game opened his cards after a player made a bet, whatched the playes reaction and then reraised him. ?? Is this true? Is it allowed? I would think that once you did this the best you could do would be call the bet but I am not sure..
Scotty?
Anyone?

  • Intentionally exposing your card(s) in a tournament is a no-no. Said hand can be declared dead and the player can be penalized in addition.
  • Thanks for the info.. I heard that some clown wants to pull that shit at tonight's tourney.. I would love to see what would happen next! :D
  • I would be really surprised if doyle pulled a stunt like that, it just doesnt seem his style.
  • Yes, the hand should be decalred dead. Turning your cards face up (before the showdown) is one way of folding. With multiple players in the hand, a time penalty should probably be assessed. If it's heads-up, probably just declaring the hand dead with no penalty is sufficient.

I doubt that Doyle would do this, but I could imagine some players trying this sort of thing.

Wait a minute. You said this happened at a major U.S. poker tournament? Last time I checked, there was no such thing as rules enforcement at such events. The re-raise is good! ;)

I'd strongly recommend addressing this problem before it happens.

  • I read somewhere about Doyle doing this. I can't recall where I read it. I believe he did this in a big cash game and not at the WSOP.
  • I bet that doyle used to do it before the TDA rules became commonplace..
