I'm very new at this forum and fairly new to playing poker, so I hope I can get some help with my game.
I'm not a serious player and only have an online poker account because of a bit of money I picked up playing a some freerolls a few weeks a go. I amassed the amazing sum of $1.86 by cashing in freeroll Hold 'em NL tourneys at Pokerstars. I then took that to the micro (1cent/2cent) ring tables and built it to about $5 by the end of my first session. Now after plugging away mostly with SNG's I have a mini-bankroll of $64.50, so I guess I'm doing OK for someone who is learning the game. I think it should actually be higher due to several bad beats (hence my user name) on or approaching final tables. I really do have some sort of jinx in these positions. I've finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th and lower at final tables a few times and usually go out due to a crappy bad (river) beat. But I won't go into any details because I'm sure all you experienced players have heard and been through enough of them that you won't hear anything new from me.
Anyway, I'm not looking to build a big BR quickly, but rather hope to increase bit by bit over the year while I learn to play properly. So, if anyone cares to offer advice about BR building, please do so.
I'm Looking forward to talking with many of you and sharing poker tales (as I eventually play enough to get some).
BTW, my game preference is Hold em NL.

3. As for advice, you seem to be making out fairly well and micro stakes. Don't worry about the beats, they're part of the game. Have you read any poker books? Try Harrington on Hold'em by Dan Harrington or Small Stakes Hold'em by David Sklansky

The most important articles that you will ever read is bankroll management. Always play within your bankroll so you will never go broke. Find some articles about that topic.
You have a br of about $65. If your into sit n gos try starting at the
$1 buy in levels. Should probably have at least 30 buy ins for the limit you are playing. You could start at the $2 buy in level but I would start off with the $1 buy ins. Sit n gos can be swingy sometimes. Would recommend a higher number of buyins the sooner the better.
Once you've earned a few hundred dollars there are some great first deposit offers on this site, you should take advantage of those also.

I agree with your comments about the importance of BR management and have certainly being obeying the 30 buy-in rule. Actually, I've been a real wimp and have stuck mostly to the .25 and .10 SnG tourneys. (Don't forget that I'm a rookie who has a lot to learn.) The only exception was back a few weeks ago when I had about a $20 Br and accidentally entered a $4.40/180 player SnG when I had intended to enter a .10 one. Fortunately, i got my share of cards, luck, and timing to finish in 6th place.
As advised, I am going to start playing $1.10/90 player SnG's this weekend and stick with those for a while. I'm fairy optimistic since I've done pretty well with the .25/90 player ones. Hopefully by playing them I'll be able to get my BR up to $100 soon. Once that happens, I'll move up to the $2.20 games. I'm not confident enough to play ring games, even though some of my tiny BR has come from them.

I was born in Toronto and grew up in Peterborough, which I still consider my true hometown - Go Petes Go. I lived in Calgary for about 21 years (brrrr) and now I live in Thailand. I've been here for about 9 years but still consider myself to be a true Canadian. (I've always hated the term "expat" as I don't feel I've expatriated myself from Canada. If anything I feel more patriotic and probably watch more Leafs and Habs games than I did while living in Canada.)
As for the bad beats. Yes, they are frustrating and would drive me up the wall a short time ago. Now I just chuckle and shake my head, knowing that I'll be on the good end of them at times, and after all, it's pretty small change I'm playing for, so to get real p-ssed off just doesn't make much sense.
I've started to read Doyle Brunson's classic book. (It is the bible of poker playing, isn't it?) but I'll check out the ones you've recommended soon.

Nope, we call it BBV for a reason..the 'bb' has two likely interpretations...'big blind' and 'bad beat' and 'big blind king' doesn't make sense. If we've got the world of b-words at our disposal, I"m going to assign a more funny interpretation for BB..ie: right now in my head you are going to be the 'big butt' king.
If you were really worried about it..you should have just gone with Bad Beat King as your forum name and signed your posts.
