Tournament Help!

In the past week I have really been struggling making it deep in any MTT. My record is as follows:

It seems that every time I get close to making the money, I really tighten up and either bust out on the bubble, or make it into the first money bracket.
It is really getting frustrating as I desperately want to make it to at least the final table.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,

Irah

  • i will usually tighten up near the bubble , especially if im shortstacked, but once im in the money i dont play any differently than before.....maybe a bit more aggressive.....because i dont want to 'just make it to the money' im going for the win.....once im ITM im happy with how i've played, just hoping to get higher into the brackets :)
  • It seems lately I have been really unlucky when it gets close to the money, but I am wondering if its my own fault for letting my stack get too small. For example last night in the 20 NL holdem, we are down to 62 players, 54paid, and I am very short stacked, just over 6K. I am on the button and double the blinds which are 3 and 6 hundred. sb folds, bb calls, and we see the flop.

    flop comes, J 6 3 rainbow. I move in , he calls my 3800, with Q6,

    turn comes 6,

    river comes Q

    ouch!

Anyways the point of this post was to find out if I should not worry so much about making the money, but puting myself in a position to get to the final table?
  • id probably call w/ any 2 cards (most of em) from a button min raise if it was folded to him.....moreso if he was pretty low stacked.....it looks like a weak steal attempt... i dont know if i'd call all in only w/ 6's.....and i guess asking what you had is irrelevant to this......i think w/ a raise of 3xBB would probably take the blinds/antes but committing half ur stack or so to the pot...which means your not folding at all....you could taken the blinds with a 3-4X BB raise imo, or take the safe move and just folded if that hand that wasnt mentioned, wasnt that great to begin with...

    just my 2 cents
    hope it helps

  • i think you have to tighten up near the bubble
if im near the middle of the pack, i will play almost nothing, and fold my BB to min raises.
i refuse to let all that time invested negated by a bad beat

once im in the money i go back to my original style

shortstacked, if it seems like you will get blinded out of the money, you must make an all in move IMO - preferably in late position, with the hopes of stealing the blinds
its about not losing chips at this point, not winning the tourney
  • i wish i had any insight for you but im about two tournaments away from getting bubble boy tattoed across my forehead.
