New Member Saying Hi

Hi to all my fellow poker addicts. Was doing some research online this morning and came across the site, so i thought i would join and get more involved with the poker world. Rather then just keep to myself and play poker. First i think i should clear something up, the name xTiltThisx does NOT mean i go on tilt alot..lol. But more so, put others on tilt..hense..tilt this. A little background, for those interested, i am pushing 40, had my own business for almost 18yrs, but always loved my poker (playing for over 20yrs) So i made the decission to close the business and make poker my living. Since it is where i am happiest. I hardly ever play online for real money, as i have heard way to many horror stories, and experienced a few of my own. So i stick to play chips online. Save the real money for the casino and my living. In the process of writing a book(i know, everyone has done it) But, not doing this from a "pro's" point of view, talking about the $5million dollar game or anything, but more from the point of a plain ole guy, playing a game he loves. Rules of thumb, tactics etc. But, its a ways off from being finished. Anyway, i think i am rambling here, so i will cut it short and just get back to my coffee.
So, once again, Hi everyone!!! Look forward to talking with my fellow poker fiends.

  • Welcome to the site! Don't play online! It is rigged! :P Where abouts are ya from?
  • By starting and ending your nickname with an 'x' I hope you realise that you have big shoes to fill..
  • Or something else big to fill..... :) Don't mind us, if you stick around a while you will udderstand....
  • xxCindyxx for prez '12!

    Hi new guy!
  • Thanks for the welcome!! Oh, i guess i forgot to mention that, i am from the London, Ont region. Used to be Toronto, but was seeking the quiet country life. So now North of London. Great place to live, but unfortunately, a good few hours drive from the closest casino. (Lived 5 minutes from Rama for a while, still not sure why i bothered buying a house and paying a mortgage for it since i pretty much lived at Rama)
I have heard it is rigged(online poker that is) its the same reason i don't play slots, i would rather take my chances against real people then a predetermined machine. Odds are definetly not in your favor. So where is everyone's fav. place to play, limit size etc? and if you don't mind my asking, is there anyone else who does it for a living here, or just a hobby.
  • Where are you playing frequently enough and finding big enough games to earn a decent living given your location? Hard to find any 5/5 5/10 10/20 NL games in your area I imagine.

Regarding your other post in the Broll thread -- if you lose 200bb you turn around and drive 3 hours home right away??

    gg

Only on Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet, but other sites are fine. Sites have no reason to rig the games as they make so much money from the rakes and don't have to pay dealers - just computer programmers!

    Anyway, welcome to the site!
  • I know how you feel but it is the biggest blunder of my life missing out on onine poker for the past five years. Just like the terrorist plane attack on 9/11 shouldn't stop you or me from flying, the drawbacks of online poker should not stop a winning player from making money both live and online.

  • Once again, thanks for the welcome. Just got home from a night at the "office", thought i would see whats up. To answer GTA's question about where i play and find games big enough to make a living.
Usually i head to Rama, one of my fav places to play (love the atmosphere there and, if i get too tired after a session there for the 3-4 hour drive, i have family that lives 10 minutes from there, so i can crash if need be) Theres always a 10/20 (usally Limit) hold em going there with some good stacks always at the table. but, incase there are no good games there for poker, i won't waste the trip, and i'll hit the high limit blackjack tables for a while to give a go at it.
Now before i get flooded with questions, i should probably tell you all a little of my card background. For almost 6 yrs, my gf/commonlaw wife at the time, taught the course at our home for 90% of the dealers to get their licence to deal at a casino. so, it enabled me to hone alot of skills, both at poker and blackjack. Try different scenario's against dealers, controling 3 - 7 hands alone against a dealer(blackjack),New decks verse a "used table" etc. And finding out which is best odds for me to make the money.
if i don't want to make the drive to a casino, i have friends that run high limit games ($2000+ buy-ins) and run private games.

As for online, i like the ease of online play, but, find the ratio of the boarded cards to be way out of whack. Hense way too many Ace/anything calls connecting. Some sites less then others, but some way higher then average. P* i think has THE highest boarded ace ratio going ( on average 5/10) so playing there for money is crazy i think when you know 5 out of every 10 hands are gonna board an ace, leaves you with alot less calling options then on other sites. Just an observation.

    i think i love you
  • I assume this thread is a troll, well done! How many bbs do you take for blackjack?
  • LMAO pkrfce9 at that. I take it you have played P* before?
and GTA..to answer your ??, i'll usually bring 2-3k to the BJ table, as even with a $100 minimum, in order to play 2 or more spots, you have to double minimum bet, and when playing 2 or more spots (aside from the dealer busting or hitting 21) you usually break even most rounds(1 hand will win, 1 will lose).
?? for you GTA..I am pretty new to the whole discussion group kinda thing...just wondering what a troll is when ya refered to this thread?

Here is the troll definition... Troll (Internet) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think he is saying he doesn't believe you that you actually think online poker is set up. Do you honestly think so many people would play if they were doing something to make it so you could lose? Do you know how much these sites are making in rake PER DAY!?? They have no reason to cheat you, unless they are Absolute Poker or Ultimate Bet which were just run by this idiot.
  • i know the companies that run the online are making a killing, and i know it definetly would not be in their best interest to "cheat" the players that play there. But you would think that they would have cards fall (boarded) more true then what they really do online. I know its supposed to be "random", but come on, tell me you can sit down and deal cards 100 times and THAT many aces hit the board. Sorry, but i have never seen a 50%+ Ace ratio hit the board at a real table. just an observation.
Thanks for the definition link. I see GTA has an issue with me. Well, all i can say is, GTA...if you ever decide to try to make a living at poker, instead of just a hobby, by all means, please let me know. Would love to be at your first table when ya try to make the bills, but word of advice, you'll have to go out of your element of the 1/2 tables and step it up a few notches

I can't even bother -- this guy plays high -- 10 20 limit will spread if he gets enough players together as casinos cater to him, how can I argue with him?
  • Hi!

    Welcome to the forum!
  • *grabs lawn chair, looks around for beverage girl...* "Kristy?"

you and Jeff should definitely hold your breath until that happens...
  • GTA..I read your site sort of thing, briefly, was wondering if you are in GTA(Toronto) or out in Calgary?
Just wondering, because if you are in Toronto, a heads-up would be fun. Something simple, $4-5k buy-in, 10,000 in chips, winner take all. Just a thought.
  • I'm in Vegas right now, but live in Calgary, hu4rollz?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't think an ace comes on the board 50+% of the time on pokerstars.

You may want to try the casino in Sarnia, I think it may be a shorter drive for you than Rama.
