Video Editing Software Suggestions

looking for some cheap (or free) video editing software for making a short video which would include music, pictures (JPEG), videos (MPEG) and title screens. Would like the format to be compatiable with most DVD players so I could share with family. Any suggestions on easy to use software that I can download that will not break the bank and works pretty good.

    My brother has this Pinnacle Studio 12. I think they have a free trial version.

    I use Adobe Premier, but it isn't free. I'm not sure if it has a trial version.
