Request Opinions re High Hand Pot.

Scenario: Separate High Hand Pot was created, with criteria that to win, both hole cards must form part of the hand.
Situation: Player 1 has Q, K. Player 2 has 5, 5
Community cards are A, A, A, Q, 2.
Results: Player 1 wins the poker hand with Aces full of Queens.
Question: Does Player 2 win the High Hand Pot, even though he holds the losing poker hand? Are his cards dead once he loses the Poker Hand, or are they still considered to be in play for the High Hand Pot?

Mant thanks for your opinions.

  • Unless there was a house rule specifying that the high hand must be a winning hand, then I would award the HH jackpot to Player 2. Just like the losing hand can win most of a bad beat jackpot, there is no reason for a losing hand not to win a qualifying HH jackpot.
  • what he said x2
  • Blondfish got it right.

By the way, I hate Jackpots, they add variance and are often a source of theft.
  • have to say, don't think I have ever seen this situation before; it probably gets overlooked all the time. Agree with the theft comment, especially when there is suppose to be no rake on the high hand but they constantly remove the high hand chips from the table when there is a dealer change. Best advice, insist that the high hand chips stay on the table until they are awarded.
  • Thanks to all for your valuable input.
Agree with recommended award criteria, and thoughts re theft are also very worthy....will incorporate both in my future activities.
    Good flops to all!
  • i STILL say it has to be the winning hand to qualify for the HH. and it gets paid out at 3:00am SHARP.

keeping the chips on the table would be a v good idea. chipping up to green or blacks would be a good idea so all could easily count the pot and be sure they aren't getting ripped off.
