Where to buy chips!

Hi All,

New to this site. Wondering if anyone can share their experience regarding purchasing chips.

I am looking for a nice cash chip set.

I was thinking f going with the Dunes Comm, or, if i win the lottery, the Mardi Gras Casino set. The only sellers i see for these chips are in the US.

Are there any Canadian retailer that i am not seeing...?

Straight poker supplies
World poker depot

Any more??? I would look at different chips if they would be locally available... but it appears as if i'll have to order them form somewhere... would prefer to order from a Canadian store!!! And there ain't any in our neck of the woods! All we can find locally are Dice chips...

I am currently using a non-denom. tri-colored Ace King set (1000), but i want a separate set for cash games!

Thanks!

  • I don't think that World Poker Depot site is serious. It's just so badly done.

They only place you need is Chiptalk.net

People from all around the world list their poker supplies in their classifieds.

I bought 800 BCC Modern Clay there for around $360.
  • Yeah - definitely check out Chiptalk. There are a ton of ads up in the classified section popping up - some good deals to be had. Also, the members there post up keep an eye on ebay for deals and post deals that they find in the 'Auctions Link' section to help people out.

Because of the weight, I found the cost of shipping is more than the cost of the chips. So, I found a seller on E-bay that was (1) in my area and (2) allowed pickup. (For a small handling fee.) When I was picking up my chips the seller hand no problem with selling me a second set at the same price. It takes a lot of email but you can search E-Bay by distance form your postal code to find sellers in your area. Then send them an email to see if they will allow pickup. It worked for me. Hope this helps.
  • Another vote for chiptalk.net. They are the best source on the web for chip info....
  • I've been searching chiptalk regularly... even found what i was looking for... But have been wondering about custom charges... Shipping was 39$, but on a 400$ set... not that bad... just don't want another 50-60$ in duties if i can avoid this!!

Has anyone ordered from US sellers and what kind of duties could be expected?

If it ain't that bad, I may order them sooner than later!!!

    Thanks for all the remarks!

Anyone here in South-Eastern New Brunswick?
  • Post your set and the supplier and then you can get opinions. If the seller will ship via USPS it should be all right. FYI 1000 chips fits easily in a flat rate international USPS box which is about $35 and not go through customs so no additional charges.
  • not to long ago I received 800 chips from the states and paid no duty
  • Hi Pondpuck,

I'm a Licensed Customs Broker, so i'll fill you in on this. Poker chips being ordered from the US are not subject to Duty. They are a named item in the Harmonized Tariff 9504.90.90.91 and are duty free http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-commerce/tariff-tarif/2009/01-99/ch95-eng.pdf

They are however subject to the 5% GST on the canadian dollar value.
  • That's cool to know that essentials like poker chips are free of tariffs.

and tables and cards and bowling pins (whew - good news indeed).
