Pureplay alternatives?

long time reader, 1st time poster... I like pureplay, in concept... i like the idea of a site where you only pay a monthly fee and get to join tournaments instead of stumping up your own funds everytime... except, everything i read on the internet about pureplay seems to be about how big of a scam it is. why is it such a scam, and are there any good alternatives out there? i also don't even know if they take canadians.
