  • Nice starting stack, but it's weird that the add-on is only 10% more chips for doubling the rake. I think this is one of those rare situations when I may decline the extra chips.

Please post if you find out when the CPT events will be in Alberta.

  • Wouldn't mind going to play that, we'll see if I can make it after work.

You may want to preregister....did on Saturday and there were already 60 players.

I would agree with you there.....but the rake is still only 10%.....so I'll not be starting shortstacked.

One day, I aim to be as frugal.

Book your flight......Jan. 20 - 25th.....6th Annual Alberta Classic at Casino Edmonton.

They don't have the spec's posted on their website yet, but I did see a pamphlet on it this weekend (forgot to grab one)....not 100% sure if it's a CPT event, but they were at the last one at Yellowhead (same casino owners).

    Here's what I remember:

    $500.00 NLH (Thursday & Friday)
$1500.00 NLH (Saturday) (both final tables on Sunday)
    $400.00 PLO (Sunday)
    $220 Super Sattelite Wednesday(winners get seat to both 500 & 1500)

I'll post the info once I have it in the live tournament section.
  • Theres already 60 registered hey? How many players do they allow? And is there a reserve list.

Don't quote me on the numbers...but they'll probably cap at 99 (9 tables).

They always have a reserve list, so I don't expect this one to be any different. Usually allow until first break. All their tourneys are now re-entry as well (ie. if you bust, you can go on the bottom of the reserve list).....not sure if they will allow for this one.
  • Sorry, but I won a satellite package to the World Poker Showdown so I'll be at the Dominican Republic that week. :D I had received an invitation to the Canadian Poker Tour Invitational Finals where there is an overlay of a $100,000 sponsorship contract for the winner, but you had to pay for everything unless you win a satellite, so I set myself a goal of winning a satellite. A forumer and I will be staying at the four-star all-inclusive Sun Village Resort and Ocean World Adventure Park & Casino. I have to shop for my own flight out of the spending money provided, so if anybody happens to notice any deals to the Dominican Republic, please post or PM me.

My wife is unable to go so I'm willing to share my room if anybody else wants to play in the WPS/CPT events or just wants to relax at the all-inclusive luxury resort. I have to shop for my own flight out of the spending money provided, so if anybody happens to notice any deals to D.R., please post or PM me.

Its only a matter of time before Blondefish breaks into the world scene; I can see it now 'blondefish vs the devilfish'. I guess you are warming up to online poker now with the world poker showdown win. I guess not all online poker is rigged. Nice win by the way.

Can anyone give me a good reason why this type of tourney never occurs in Ontario Casinos? Fallsview? Niagara? Brantford?

Sweet....look forward to your trip reports. Which site did you win a satellite on?

Noting the dates, I'm guessing the Casino Edmonton tourney won't be a CPT event, as it would conflict with the WPS.

PartyPoker - here's the satellite information link. As long as Casino Edmonton registers with the CPT, then their tournaments will be CPT events.

Fortunately, it looks like there will be enough tournaments in 2009 in Ontario with high Patience Factors (BlondeFish-approved! ;)) so I have no itch to travel to US tournaments with 30%+ rake. There will be decent tournaments at Casino Brantford every week, Great Blue Heron every month, ~12 at Point Edward, Casino Rama Annual Fall Classic, and hundreds of Fallsview WPT satellites from June-October (nowhere as good as rake-free satellites, but still +EV for decent SNG players).

Cheaters like nionio and Russ Hamilton are just one of the many pitfalls of online gambling. I wish SirWatts, Choron or any of the other K-W poker millionaires will teach a seminar called "How to profit online almost as much as we did playing live!" :D

I was playing last night at Yellowhead, I overheard that their going to have 200 entries and taking up both rooms. Not bad for 40,000 pot not to mention the addons.
  • Note that the optional add-ons of up to $2,000 total is probably for the dealers and does NOT go to the players' prize pool. Paying double the rake for only 10% more chips lowers your EV but if it's your typical poker game where most players don't care or understand about maximizing EV, then I would be forced to pay since the equity disadvantage of having 1500 less chips than the other players would be more than the cost of the add-on.

  • Total field was 167......with a 1st place prize of $10 000

Dissappointed in the blind structure, as they skipped a few of the regular blind levels. Became a crapshoot way too early. With 60 People left, the average stack was close to shortstacked (10 BB).

    Finished 40 something......my 9 10 got run over by K's......g/f even lasted longer.....damn.

They're having another one on Jan 1st.....with promises of a better blind structure......so, I'll try again then.
  • That's bullshit, when its dwindling down they should have made the structure longer, its just bingo after that.

When it made it down to the final table, they increased the blind levels to 1/2 hr.....probably helped a little, but not much.

They did at least realize their error in the blind structure.....I'm hoping for much better tomorrow in my comatose hangover state.

I'll let you know how it was.

I see in the CPT magazine that the Casino Edmonton tourney is a listed CPT tourney.
  • Yes, I also posted the list of CPT events in another thread. Anybody from the Toronto area interested in flying to any of the CPT events?

Structure was the same, but they put back in the blinds they took out last time, so there was alot more play.

Didn't help my play any.....couldn't build a stack, hovered betweeen 20000 - 10000........finally pushed with A9 only to run into the unbeatable A4.

    142 players.....9 G's for 1st
