Casino Rama Fall Classic 2008

Casino Rama's Annual Fall Classic Poker Tournament is back on Monday, December 15, 2008. The buy-in is $1,000+$100, for a rake of 9.1%.

Even though it is the same 5000 starting chips and 30-minute blinds as last year, the blind schedule has been improved. The Patience Factor is now decent at 9.8 and the Skill Level is 5. It is not as great a value as the $300 Casino Brantford tournament that I played on Thursday or Great Blue Heron's $1,100 tournaments in 2009, but it is more than good enough for serious tournament players to go to instead of going to the US. Rama has 11-player tables like GBH.

As usual, Casino Rama didn't bother to register this as a CPT event, unlike OLG casinos and GBH. Assuming the $150+$10 satellites are the same as last year with 1000 chips and 15-minute blinds, the Skill Level remains at 0. First place wins the $1100 seat, 2nd gets $230 cash, and 3rd and 4th get their $160 cash back. The rake is only 6.25%.

Conclusion: If I hadn't been retired from poker for December, I would take a free bus to Rama and play the satellites before the 132 seats sell out soon. This 100% tax-free tournament is better than travelling to Turning Stone or other US tournament.
